Thoughts on Florian for a boy?

It's absolutely fine if you write for The Spectator. Otherwise, I'd steer clear.

Pickleshickles · 06/05/2018 06:55

Absolutely love it.

felicitythemangyfox · 06/05/2018 06:59

The Florian's I've met have been eastern European. I like it. Also like Flory for a girl.

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/05/2018 06:59

I love it. But something in the back of my mind is connecting with Lidl own brand, maybe liquid detergent....?

joystir59 · 06/05/2018 07:01

Florian? Really? Out of all the names in the world you want to saddle an innocent child with this name?

spritethecat · 06/05/2018 07:12

Florian is a very handsome name. It's lovely and unusual in the UK, I love it.

Lillylollylandy · 06/05/2018 07:29

I know a Florian. It's a good name, but be prepared for it to be shortened to Florrie.

RickOShay · 06/05/2018 07:30

Yes I like Florian.

Twooter · 06/05/2018 07:30

Went to uni with a Florian. Most intelligent mathematician I've ever met. Nobody thought twice about his name.

Paleblue · 06/05/2018 07:36

I haven't heard that name before. It is unusual. I wouldn't choose it for a boy but wouldn't think anything negative about the name if ds said he had a friend with that name.

LynetteScavo · 06/05/2018 08:04

I knew a Florian. He was German. I always thought his name was a bit flowery.

neonyellowshoes · 06/05/2018 08:08

Weed killer?

GaraMedouar · 06/05/2018 08:09

Only if you're French

TenThousandSpoons · 06/05/2018 08:09

Ponce-tastic.

sonnyboo · 06/05/2018 08:32

Very popular in Germany

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/05/2018 08:43

A bit flowery for over here.

PetraRabbit · 06/05/2018 11:17

It's a romantic artsy name, not a strong masculine name but personally I like it a lot. If you think you may end up with a big square jawed construction worker for a son maybe not but otherwise my vote is yes.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 06/05/2018 11:19

I know a Florian in his mid-forties (UK born and bred!) and he is strong masculine and a bit of an all round dream boat!

Sophronia · 06/05/2018 11:20

I know a few German Florians. I like it.

greendale17 · 06/05/2018 11:21

Too feminine

EleanorHooverbelt · 06/05/2018 11:23

Not sure it would be in the child's best interests to give him this name.

However, for the love of all that is holy, please do not use the ancient Roman name from which this is borrowed. That name is Florianus Shock

GreyGardens88 · 06/05/2018 11:24

Sounds like a brand or margarine or washing powder, I don't like it

EleanorHooverbelt · 06/05/2018 11:25

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Florian

Florian

Bit weird, can be used as a noun, adverb or adjective. Doing something in a weird manner, being weird or something which is weird.

'That person plays football like a florian

'Oi geezer, have you seen that new kid who looks like a florian

JoffreyMonfrere · 06/05/2018 11:28

Not keen. Makes me think of 'floral' and 'florid'
