Best and worst names...

Well I'm off work, in bed and all this royal stuff has got me thinking. Entertain me... what are your most and least favourite names?

I've always loved Emma and Oscar. I like Rowan for a boy too if we're talking a little more modern.

I can't stand double barrelled names such as Ellie-May, Lexi-Grace, Demi-Rae, Tayah-Mae etc.

Thoughts?

I love Brooke for a girl. For a boy, Jesse. But my favourite names change all the time!

UniqueAsAUnicorn · 26/04/2018 12:51
Hmm
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/04/2018 13:32

Probably be better if we just offered our favourite names OP, save upsetting others.
Rosanna
Harriet
Tess
Kathryn
Daniel
Dylan
Lots, lots more. Emma is lovely !

Fridasfridgefreezer · 26/04/2018 13:34

Nice

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 26/04/2018 14:12

I still love the names I gave my DC's but also love Alaric and Arthur for a boy and Clementine and Matilda for a girl.

PeonyTruffle · 26/04/2018 14:14

Oh I hate these threads. Everyone likes different things, what you dislike, someone else loves and vice versa

Lanie233 · 26/04/2018 14:20

It doesn't matter truffle we're all allowed to dislike things, if everybody agreed life would be boring, it's nothing to be offended over 😊

OP posts:
PeonyTruffle · 26/04/2018 14:41

I agree completely. It would be super boring if we all did like the same thing!

But I just think picking children’s names that you like and dislike (mainly the dislike bit) is a bit personal and it always ends up with people offended which just seems unnecessary that’s all

MrPottergaveDobbyaSock · 26/04/2018 14:42

For Girls I love Daphne, Violet, Rosalind, Ivy and Emmeline. (all with Wren as a middle name)
I don't like (but DH loves) Jessica, Danielle, Kimberley etc.

For Boys, I love James (Jim), Jacob and Samuel
I don't like (but again, DH loves) Jack, Harry and Michael.

Backinthetallgrass · 26/04/2018 14:51

For a boy I love Leo, Isaac, Oscar, Lucas and Hayden.

I dislike Reece and Caiden

For a girl I love Olivia, Ava, Sara and Maya

I dislike Grace, Jodie and Neveah.

I dislike most names with awkward spellings though

Lanie233 · 26/04/2018 14:58

I love Leo! Unfortunately I would never be able to pick it though as it would bring back a whole load of piss taking for my teenage obsession with Mr DiCaprio (I'm 33 and still can't live it down!)

I like Emma, Clara, Caspar, Quentin and lots more!

I dislike cutesy names Alfie, Archie, Evie, Poppy etc

But thankfully we all have different tastes!

Buntysoven · 26/04/2018 22:43

I dislike judgements on whether names are Chav or not. Horrible term

SophieLMumsnet · 27/04/2018 12:28

Hi OP,

We've just edited your OP post to remove 'chav' as we don't think it's really in the spirit.

Cosmoa · 27/04/2018 12:58

Can't bare people being unimaginative and trying to bring back old names like Peter and Colin!!

longtallwalker · 27/04/2018 13:17

Sorry, but Kale? Really?

Nixen · 27/04/2018 13:18

The worst name I’ve ever heard is Starlette

pipilangstrumpf · 27/04/2018 13:33

Actually Starlette sounds quite pretty, a little Star. I prefer it to Scarlett, which reminds me of a scar.

Cosmoa · 27/04/2018 16:20

@longtallwalker I know! Notice it's in my list of names I don't like! Luckily it's not a common name but it is really the choice for some Confused

Cosmoa · 27/04/2018 16:21

I suppose Kale is a nice name when you don't know about the vegetable...

MikeUniformMike · 27/04/2018 16:30

Starlette sounds like a sanitary product or female contraceptive

manicinsomniac · 28/04/2018 00:25

ashley067 · 16/10/2022 22:53

Do you guys like the name lana? Because when I read it on a website it said that it was a bad fit because the. Name. Backwards is something not appropriate and I’d like to mention that it said lana and not the other

Zizou04 · 17/10/2022 00:56

I hate the name Euan/Ewan. I properly detest it and I'm not sure why! 😂

I also dislike anything that sounds like an old man or old lady name.

I'm really hard to please though. I have two daughters and I've completely gone off their names too 🤦🏽‍♀️

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 17/10/2022 01:18

Really don’t like Caleb or Ethan
Girls Nevaeh Olivia
