Hello everybody,

I am awaiting a girl in september :-) My husband and me fall in love with the name Naliandra! What do you think about it?

I would be glad about many answers, please write down everything what comes in your mind concerning this name! How you like it, how you imagine a girl/woman with this name, ... :-)

Thank you very much! :-)

Best wishes
Mia

Pretty.

I've never heard it before so have no accossiations.

I really like it.

chezmk1988 · 15/04/2018 18:08

Sounds made up and therefore it's not something I'd like.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 18:09

Do you know about the name? I've never heard it and Google isn't helping much!

I'm thinking of a woman in purple and green floaty dresses and long beads, dancing about on tippy toes, barefoot.

CapnCabinet · 15/04/2018 18:11

It feels quite Indian, or nearby to me. It flows very nicely as a sound I think - like the previous poster makes me think of floaty dress and quite chilled.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 18:12

One site says it's aboriginal - but I have no idea what an aboriginal name would sound like!

BakedBeans47 · 15/04/2018 18:12

I am not keen. Are you in the UK?

Carboholic · 15/04/2018 18:13

It sounds great to me. Also never heard it before - where did you find it?

Sounds strong, which I like.

Associations - probably a fantasy novel character Grin I expect her to be wearing armour and a sword and kicking ass and then having difficult political decisions to make.

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2018 18:14

It looks & sounds pretty but it's too fussy for me, too many syllables.

PatriciaHolm · 15/04/2018 18:15

How do you pronounce it? I've never heard it before.

I really like it.

Thanks for your answers! :)

I found it on German websites! I am German and my husband come from the UK and we are going to move to London! So I would like to know how English people think about this name. In Germany the opinions are very different. Some say the name is fantastic, other find it horrible ....

If you understand German, here you can find s.th. about the meaning:
www.baby-vornamen.de/Maedchen/N/Na/Naliandra/

And there is a link to a journal (last answer from a Naliandra):

www.onomastik.com/bedeutung-naliandra.php

We would pronounce it na-lee-AN-dra in England (AN like the name Anne) and in Germany AN like "un" in "until" and with the German r!

It's too long so it will get shortened. Nali sounds like gnarly.

happytobemrsg · 15/04/2018 18:49

Never heard of it. I had to read it a few times to figure out how to pronounce it

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 18:50

Doesn't sound German to my ear. She'd be a little Nelly though (cute!)

MiaLe · 15/04/2018 19:01

On the German sites the most mentioned nicknames are Nala and Lia. What do you think about these? Nelly is not my favourite name but in England better than in Germany I don't know why! ;)

OP posts:
AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 19:09

Nala sounds Indian and Lia is a close to Leah. I like Nelly though!

Growingboys · 15/04/2018 19:11

Sounds a bit fussy.

Not keen I'm afraid.

LoveInTokyo · 15/04/2018 20:09

Never heard of it but if I saw it written down I would think the child was Indian.

buttercup54321 · 15/04/2018 20:10

Sounds like indecision between two names such as Natalie and Alexandra, Like a made up name.

RavenWings · 15/04/2018 20:10

I would have guessed it was Indian, too. I like it a lot.
I think it's very possible she'd end up with Nelly as a nickname. Nala is nice but very Lion King, and Lias are ten a penny.

jammiebammie · 15/04/2018 20:13

It don’t particularly like it tbh, it does sound rather made up to me. It reminds me of Melisandre (from GoT, unsure if it’s a name in its own right)
At least it is an easy one to pronounce.

MiaLe · 15/04/2018 20:44

Okay, many different opinions ;) Thanks! :)

Here you can listen to the pronounciation, the second one in German is the way I would say it:

And here in English:

MadMags · 15/04/2018 20:48

It’s a bit long and fussy for my tastes.

Nelly is a god-awful nickname, but Nala and Lia are nice.

Is there anything a bit shorter but along the same lines?

Ultimately though, if you and DH like it then that’s what you should go with.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/04/2018 21:39

I like Lia, this could be a nickname for Natalia, which is pretty.
