Hello everybody,

I am awaiting a girl in september :-) My husband and me fall in love with the name Naliandra! What do you think about it?

I would be glad about many answers, please write down everything what comes in your mind concerning this name! How you like it, how you imagine a girl/woman with this name, ... :-)

Thank you very much! :-)

Best wishes
Mia

English people will always find a way to shorten a name and turn it into a diminutive or nickname - I've only recently discovered that this isn't something everyone does (Scottish people don't really do this, for example). If you're going to be in the U.K. for a while it might be worth factoring it in. I could see Naliandra becoming Nally, Andy or Andra for starters...

MadMaryBoddington · 15/04/2018 23:24

Far too long and fussy for me.

Buntysoven · 15/04/2018 23:43

I don't usually like long names but this is really pretty. Nali is cute as a nn

manicinsomniac · 16/04/2018 01:55

I've never heard it before so don't have any associations but I think it's really pretty. If I had to guess, I'd have said it was Russian actually. Or possibly Italian.

I like Nala and Lia. You could also go with Ali, which I think I is really sweet and pretty. Or Zanna, Zandra, Nalia or Andi. Lots of possibilities.

I like it! And I think Nala is a lovely shortening Smile

llangennith · 16/04/2018 08:17

Too long and sounds like you made it up

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 16/04/2018 08:24

Like others I have never heard of it but I like it. It will get shortened with out a doubt but Nala is lovely.

gwen25 · 16/04/2018 12:01

Never heard of it but I actually like it! Nala and Nelly are lovely too

FawnDrench · 16/04/2018 14:37

It's a bit too Game of Thrones for me.
And reminds me of that Lady Gaga record "Alejandro" for some reason.
Or Gnarls Berkeley...

diddl · 16/04/2018 15:57

Sounds like 2 names incorporated into 1 to me.

Like Nalia though.

DairyisClosed · 16/04/2018 16:00

Well u would pronounce it the way you have but I'm not sure that I like it.

That it sounds been made up is what some German say too ... I suppose the name is one of the names you love or you hate ...

I like it: I think it sounds vaguely classical and quite strong (Cassandra/Ariadne type name) and I think lots of potential for cute shortenings (Nali; Annie; Lia etc) - I'd personally avoid Nelly too but think you've got lots of options in there.
Lovely name, OP: all the best with the baby!

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 16/04/2018 19:23

I really like it and for what it’s worth I’m English, have never heard or seen this name before but my first thought was not that it seemed made up, but to wonder where the name was from. I think if you both love it you should definitely go for it, it’s lovely!

MiaLe · 17/04/2018 12:23

We will take the name Naliandra - thank you for the good wishes! :-)

Today I searched again about the name in the internet and I found a site of a Naliandra and for me it's a kind of sign, because what she shows there (pictures of different crafts she made) reflects the feeling I have when I hear the name: something magical and special! If you want to look, here you can see:

It’s a mouthful to say. But I like the shortenings Nala and Lia.

Would you consider using a shorter name?

LoveInTokyo · 17/04/2018 13:26

If you love it, go for it. But it will get shortened, so maybe start thinking about what you would prefer it to be shortened to.

Marcipex · 17/04/2018 13:52

I think it's very pretty. Magical. I think Andra is a nice nickname, that's magical and arty too.

mintich · 17/04/2018 14:08

Never heard it before but I like it!
