Just that really: final 2 my husband and I can agree on.

I'm not sure how Micah is pronounced, so I'd go for Emerson out of those two.

helpmum2003 · 15/04/2018 17:03

Micah.

Because I'm not fond of first names that are surnames.

georgiaokeeffe · 15/04/2018 17:05

Micah is like Michael without the l.

Micah, an old Biblical name which is unusual but not hard to pronounce.

Not keen on Emerson - don't particularly like the surname as first name trend.

chezmk1988 · 15/04/2018 18:09

Adore Micah. On our list.

Micah.

Sophronia · 15/04/2018 18:28

Micah

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2018 18:30

I don't like either, but if I had to pick I'd choose Micah. Though Michael is much nicer.

MikeUniformMike · 15/04/2018 18:34

Same as DramaAlpaca. Emerson is a surname and sounds a bit like Emmason, cf Alison, Madison, etc.
Micah makes me think of Formica.

gryffen · 15/04/2018 18:34

Micah is lovely, I quite like Mikhail on our list.

Emerson just reminds me of Charles Emerson Winchester 3rd in MASH (awesome actor tho!)

daisypond · 15/04/2018 18:35

Micah is very odd to me - I've never heard of it and wouldn't know how to pronounce it. I thought Mee-ka at first. But I see it's Old Testament. I might assume Jewish parents, though. I'm not wild about Emerson as it's a surname-type name, but I'd go for that, probably.

georgiaokeeffe · 15/04/2018 18:42

We're tied to a name that starts with 'm' or at a push had the 'em' sound at the beginning after my mother who passed away last year (cultural tradition). Problem
Is we already have a Miles. Micah and Miles sound so similar but my husband thinks it's fine. Any other suggestions?

I'd also add we're in the US where surnames as first names are commonplace, but not everyone's cup of tea I know.

Is Michael no good?

Katjolo · 15/04/2018 19:52

Emmerson

LoveInTokyo · 15/04/2018 20:07

Miles and Michael sounds good Wink

RedDwarves · 15/04/2018 20:11

I would assume Emerson was a girl as (especially in the US) it has become popular for girls in the same way Madison has.

So, Micah by default, but I don’t like it.

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 15/04/2018 20:11

I prefer Michael. I love how it sounds. Not keen on Emerson or Micah.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 15/04/2018 20:13

For a boy I assume? I know of girls with both names. I prefer Emerson purely because of the way it sounds, but I like both.

Laquila · 15/04/2018 20:13

I quite like both but I prefer Emerson with Miles.

Micah is Old Testament but not notably popular amongst Jewish families IME.

AssassinatedBeauty · 15/04/2018 20:38

Matthew, Malcolm, Mark, Marcus?

Ginnotginger · 15/04/2018 20:38

I like Micah, I'm not keen on Emerson. My favourite M name is Matthew.

Peachbubble · 15/04/2018 20:55

Micah. Other M boys names: Moses, Maxwell, Magnus, Matthias, Murray, Malachi, Munro.

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 15/04/2018 20:58

I wouldn't pick two similar names myself. I did and when I'm tired it's very hard to say the right one. Better when they are older...
