I read the thread title and assumed the child was a girl because Emerson sounds like a girl's name.

I am really surprised at the number of people who are saying this. EmerSON? As in 'son of Emer'? Like Jackson and Anderson?

I'm definitely having a boy! But yes, Emerson is more often used for girls but I thought paired with a very masculine middle name we might get away with it. And in the US it seems anything goes. In my daughter's class there's a Brooklyn (boy) and a Brooklyn (girl).
