For a girl. Thoughts? Also how would you pronounce it? TIA Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DramaAlpaca · 28/03/2018 12:51

I know I should associate it with Shakespeare, but all I can think of is washing powder. Sorry.

MayFayner · 28/03/2018 12:51

Washing powder here too, I'm afraid.

RatRolyPoly · 28/03/2018 12:52

Little Mermaid.

piercinggelo · 28/03/2018 13:00

Thoughts?

Mine would be 'why, just why'

Lubyloo · 28/03/2018 13:03

Washing powder and Sylvia Plath. If you are in the UK you will be subjecting her to horrendous teasing at school.

caseymoo · 28/03/2018 13:05

I don't think she would get teased at school. Kids are more tolerant these days of names, and I think Ariel is very pretty and becoming more popular.
First thing I think is little mermaid

ZogsAnon · 28/03/2018 13:07

It would make think you are Hebrew, love the name. I'd pronounce aRi-elle

PointlessUsername · 28/03/2018 13:09

Makes me think of the little mermaid.

I would pronounce it Air-ree-ell

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 28/03/2018 13:13

I would think boy's name and a Jewish connection. In itself it is a pretty name.

TheEgregiousPeach · 28/03/2018 13:14

With an a on the end so it's Ariella maybe? I like Ariel but I would think of the laundry detergent.

Chanelprincess · 28/03/2018 13:15

Awful. Far too Disney.

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 28/03/2018 13:17

I think of mermaid, Sharon, washing powder.

halfwitpicker · 28/03/2018 13:18

Ari elle

Love it personally

daisypond · 28/03/2018 14:18

It's a male name - it's the slave sprite in Shakespeare's The Tempest. Or washing powder.

RatRolyPoly · 28/03/2018 14:34

Ariella's lovely though!

Clemfantango · 28/03/2018 14:38

Boys name but lovely

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/03/2018 15:20

It makes think think of the little mermaid. I don't agree with previous posters, I don't think she would be teased for it. It's actually a really pretty name, I quite like it

I pronounce it air-ree-ul

Dogsrbarking · 28/03/2018 15:24

I would pronounce it as Ari-uhl. If you are going for the Ari-elle pronunciation you could just spell it as Arielle

TenThousandSpoons · 28/03/2018 15:43

Little mermaid
Ariel Winter (who plays Alex in Moderm Family and is the voice of Sophia the First)
I wouldn’t really think of washing powder and I think it’s a pretty name, but not sure I’d want to be called Ariel myself so wonder if she’ll like it as an older girl/adult.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/03/2018 15:47

Aerial is how I'd pronounce but I'd think Disney.

Would stick an a on the end and pronounce Ari-ella

DullAndOld · 28/03/2018 15:48

I would think it belonged to an Israeli boy tbh, like Ariel Sharon.

Or washing powder..

upsideup · 28/03/2018 16:05

I love it because of the little mermaid association but the washing powder may put me off

Mollie85 · 28/03/2018 16:43

....automatic - washing powder for me too

However if not pronounced like aerial, e.g. aRi-elle, then it has a pretty good enough sound.

Although where I am, it would be automatically pronounced aerial Smile

Good luck and best wishes

Mollie85 · 28/03/2018 16:44

Autocorrect put “good” after pretty there, sorry! Blush

grasspigeons · 28/03/2018 16:52

I think tv/washing powder - but that said its a very pretty sound

I know a Feriel which I think is lovely

or maybe Aurelia
