Gwendoline is the only one I like (prefer i to y).

Psyche is good too but only usable if she’s going to private school or she will just be called Psycho.

TheImprobableGirl · 25/03/2018 09:46

Meredith is the least awful, but even then it’s very greys anatomy...

Wasn’t Drusilla an ugly sister? Cinderella isn’t likely to fade out of fashion

Kendra will always be associated with Hugh Hefner for me- I quite like it because of the Harry Potter association but couldn’t use it because of Hugh...

Don’t mind Ursula as much, but again the evil sea witch in Ariel- do you really want to saddle a little girl with that?! Morgana was Ursula’s equally evil sister

And Lilith was meant to be th mother of all the evil spirits in the world or some such... not great tbh

DwangelaForever · 25/03/2018 09:52

Lilith is a demon name.

Hate all the names sorry.

Trampire · 25/03/2018 10:45

Sorry I don't often poo all over people name choices but they're all awful, except for Meredith and Gwen(doline) which are acceptable.

Really sorry. Yes we all know Psyche is from Greek Mythology thanks, but it's normal daily use just has the wrong connotations.

You may as well use Cruella de ville.

PinkAvocado · 25/03/2018 11:37

I think quite a few have negative connotations that your daughter would come into contact with quite young.

HeartySoup · 25/03/2018 12:36

I love Lilith and Carmen.

I like Morgana but what about Morgan? Morgana might be a bit of a mouthful.

HeartySoup · 25/03/2018 12:36

Okay, I’ve just read the history of Lilith. Maybe not that then...

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 25/03/2018 15:17

Maris- Reminds me too much of Frasier or a potato
Tristana- meh
Meredith- don't mind this one, merry is a cute nn for a little girl.
Morgana- not keen on this one at all
Carmen- quite like it, unusual but not too 'out there'
Marguerite- sounds too much like Margherita and I would worry about people calling her Marge, as in Simpson, for short
Daisy- pretty but very popular at the moment
Gwendolyn- Gwen is pretty, but the full name is a bit of a mouthful
Drusilla- Really don't like it, sorry
Ursula- reminds me of the villain in the Little Mermaid
Kendra- meh
Psyche- please don't do this to your child
Lilith- I think this is very pretty. Out of all the names on your list i'd say this is the nicest as long as you're ok with people shortening to Lilly which is inevitable.

FallenAngel89 · 25/03/2018 15:18

Meredith or Lilith 😊

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 25/03/2018 15:20

Psyche is good too but only usable if she’s going to private school or she will just be called Psycho

I can confirm 100% that children at private schools torment, tease and bully one another just as much as kids who go to state school.

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 25/03/2018 15:20

I love Carmen and Gwen.

Naberes · 25/03/2018 15:27

I love Carmen (and Psyche, but agree it’s too much!)

AnnDerry · 25/03/2018 15:28

Drusilla - bonkers seriously evil vampire (but I love her)
Kendra - vampire-slayer with very dodgy accent (don't love her.)

I love names with Arthurian connections so like Morgan(a) but Tristana doesn't sound right as I don't think there's a feminine form of Trystan/Tristan. Isolde/Isolde/Iseult/Eseld (the Cornish version) would fit well with that kind of name though.

My DDs have names which have a similar feel to these - and have never been bullied over them (in spite of going to a bog standard rural comp in an area not generally known for imaginative/unusual naming.)

Naberes · 25/03/2018 15:28

And Lilith but Lily and co are everywhere atm!

CanalCruiser · 25/03/2018 15:31

I have a 11yo Lily but call her Lilith all the time... I love it. Not keen on any of the other names, sorry.

Luckingfovely · 25/03/2018 15:43

So sorry to be negative, but I think this is the absolute worst list of names I have ever seen on mn, and that's really quite an achievement.

Oysterbabe · 25/03/2018 15:53

Carmen is the one, very pretty.

mintich · 25/03/2018 16:10

Kendra and Meredith

I see a lot of poeple like Lilith. I am so torn on this because on one hand I am a feminist and believe the demonization is down to the patriarchy. On the other it might be difficult for people to swallow. Will have to think because I adore the name.

OP posts:
mintich · 25/03/2018 16:42

Sorry, I thinking missed something! Can you explain?

bettydraper31 · 25/03/2018 16:45

My name is on your list, and I haven’t used it since my late teens. Whenever I was asked my name I always got “what?!” As a response. Please reconsider any “unusual” names as it’s your child that has to live with it. It definitely knocked my confidence growing up, I have even considered changing it permanently by deed poll.

NameChangedForThisQ · 25/03/2018 16:45

Lilith in Jewish mythology was created same time as Adam and wouldn't submit to him and called herself his equal so was banished from Eden and basically bitched about in her absence which is where she got reputation for being a demon from.

mintich · 25/03/2018 16:47

Ah thanks for the explanation!

IrisApfelRocks · 25/03/2018 17:05

Really sorry. Yes we all know Psyche is from Greek Mythology thanks, but it's normal daily use just has the wrong connotations.

I didn't know. I just looked it up and it's so interesting. I agree that's it's pretty much unusable but it has a beautiful meaning.

I like Lilith a lot.
