Boy names *eye roll*...

So we are expecting our second little boy!

Hubby and I had already agreed on a girls name, always the way! Our first little boy is Henry, so need something that goes. We are a bit more on the traditional side - strong believer in a traditional name then can use a nickname if needed. Our last name is pretty boring, so needs to be a bit of a stronger name.

Some names we have thrown around are: Rupert (hubby's pick, I'm unsure), Theo (Theodore), Angus, and Walter (Walt/Wally, my family's vote). We have some time until bubba is here, I just thought I would see what people's options are on the current short list or if there are any other ideas out there! I feel like I keep seeing the same names over and over again! Confused xx

Go with what you love and don't worry about others!

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 19/03/2018 12:28

appleblossomtree the OP has asked for advice on the suggested names, so I assume that's what she wants.

Rupert and Angus: awful, really wet fish.

Theodore is my favourite out of your suggestions. I quite like Walter but not sure whether it's a sausage dog's name?Grin Wally is awful and I'm not keen on Walt.

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 19/03/2018 12:30

I assume you know that 'wally' is slang for fool?

user1498549192 · 19/03/2018 12:31

I love Angus!

Suggestions:

Magnus
Hamish
Patrick
Edward
Felix
Sebastian
Rory
Douglas
Joseph
Lachlan

Sandsnake · 19/03/2018 12:32

Anything but Walter.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/03/2018 12:33

James
Jonathan

Sandsnake · 19/03/2018 12:34

More helpfully, I think your other name choices are nice. Marginally prefer Theodore and Angus to Rupert.

Winchester13 · 19/03/2018 12:35

I like Theo,Sebastian and Gabriel

luxurybiscuit · 19/03/2018 12:36

I like all of them, with Angus as my favourite. Are you in the UK OP? Saddling a kid with Wally is just cruel if so (see also Plonker, Dipshit, Numbskull, Pillock, Doofus....all very similar to Wally!)

luxurybiscuit · 19/03/2018 12:36

(when I said all of them clearly I meant all of them except Wally!!)

BikeRunSki · 19/03/2018 12:37

I love Angus
Not sure about Walter. Well Walter is OK, but Wally?
Theo is pretty commonplace , I have no feelings either about this.
Hate Rupert, largely for the connotations associated with this name as slang for a wealthy, privileged and self important person, with a large degree of arrogance about them.

lovelsa · 19/03/2018 12:39

luxurybiscuit, Yes, I am in the UK, but am American (married a Brit), so had no idea of the Wally association!

Boy names are just so hard! We came up with girl names so easily both times! It's not just finding names, but then the nn associated with them too!!

How about another King, George this time?
Or Edmund (a change from Edward but it can still have all the variations, Ned, Ted, Ed etc.)
BTW, a 'Rupert' is army slang for an upper-class, rather twattish officer.

TatianaLarina · 19/03/2018 12:41

Love Angus, like Theo - but Walter is awful - it’s none of you family’s business anyway.

lovelsa · 19/03/2018 12:41

@tartyflette Hubby shot down Edmund. My mom and sister are Susan and Lucy, and my cousin is a Peter...wasn't a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia reference I made lol

MyNewBearTotoro · 19/03/2018 12:46

I’m not at all keen on Angus. I like Walter but Wally is an awful nickname. Theodore and Rubert are both lovely.

Some other suggestions:

Wilfred
Barnaby
Reuben
Rufus
Arthur
Benjamin
Daniel
Oscar

laddylonglocks · 19/03/2018 12:52

I think Henry and Theodore sound ace together. I'm almost sad I didn't pick them myself Grin

Trampire · 19/03/2018 12:53

I like

Hugh
Peter (rather underused these days)
Idris
Ivor

Trampire · 19/03/2018 12:53

Sorry just seen your Narnia update. Maybe not Peter then, Shane.

Trampire · 19/03/2018 12:53

Shame not Shane!

Thistlebelle · 19/03/2018 12:54

Angus and Theo are both great.

Rupert is ok ish depends on the character of the child to carry it off really.

Walter as several connotations that make it a less good choice.

ChocolateCrunch · 19/03/2018 13:01

Love Rupert and like Theo. Prefer Magnus to Angus though.

How about Frederick, Jasper, Alexander or Benjamin?

KittenBeast · 19/03/2018 13:06

Loves Angus!

lovelsa · 19/03/2018 13:07

@chocolatecrunch My hubby has Frederick (love) and Benjamin on his side (His dad is 1 of 8 - mostly boys all with kids...another issue when it comes to names! Don't think I could have that many purely for the reason of I wouldn't know what name to use next! lol)

Jasper has come up a few times and came up with #1, might have to revisit! x

Love Theo!
Henry is so lucky to be getting a little brother.
Congratulations.
