It's such a beautiful name, how about Mila for nn?

Sleephead1 · 02/03/2018 18:03

I like it. it has become popular is that part of the reason you have gone off it? I know a Amelie who goes by ame it suits her

DollyDayScream · 02/03/2018 18:15

It's a lovely name!

I do nearly chose it for one of mine.

Do you shorten it? Mimi is very cute!

Poppins2016 · 02/03/2018 18:21

Another vote for nickname Mimi, it's cute when they're younger and can be taken seriously as an adult (at least, I know an adult called Mimi and it doesn't jar).

Amelie is lovely! You made an excellent choice. What about Amy as an unexpected nickname, does that help?

starzig · 02/03/2018 20:53

I love it.

Summergarden · 02/03/2018 20:58

It’s such a pretty name.

If people don’t know how to spell it, try saying ‘as in the French film’?

FreeNiki · 02/03/2018 21:31

I knew an Amelie who was nicknamed Lee and then it became Lee Lee. Kind of cute it was on her.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/03/2018 21:37

The Amelie I know uses Ammie as a nickname or Am if that helps at all.

Decaf83 · 03/03/2018 07:51

My 2yo is Amelie. I know exactly what you mean about pronunciation. She gets 'Emily' alot!!!
But we love it, it's so beautiful. Grin
We shorten it to Amie, which she even calls herself most of the time.
You definitely made a great choice!!! Smile

Busymummy34 · 03/03/2018 08:55

Thanks for all the comments, I definitely might try Ammie xx

Ploppymoodypants · 03/03/2018 09:02

Amelie is a lovely, lovely name. I only know one she cool is an arty, cool, trendy, 16 year old.

I also like Melly. I was put off the name Amelie because I was worried about it being shortened to Millie and DD becoming one of about 30 Millie’s in her school and peer group. But Melly is v sweet, and I don’t think kids will tease. If they are the kind of kids to tease they will find something regardless. And we should be teaching kids not to tease, rather than adjusting name choices, to accommodate potential bullying!

Ploppymoodypants · 03/03/2018 09:02

Ammie is sweet too!

FeedtheTree · 03/03/2018 09:05

There are three Amelies in our village and I've never heard anyone struggle with the pronunciation. (They're all called AM-eh-lee).

You could shorten it to Amy/Aimee, Ammie, Lily, Mia, Lia, Mel if you don't like Millie. It's a versatile name.

Busymummy34 · 03/03/2018 11:31

Would lily work as a nn tho?

Zaya71 · 03/03/2018 11:47

My sister is an Amelie(29 years old), the only one I had ever heard of for years. She has always gone by Amy as she became annoyed at correcting people who said Emily. I know five Amelies that are under five so I should think that as it is currently popular as they get older it will become a lot more known and more recognisable to people. It's a lovely name.

HuskyMcClusky · 03/03/2018 11:52

It is such a gorgeous name. I love it.

MikeUniformMike · 03/03/2018 13:10

I'm not keen on the name, or on Emily or Amelia, but they are all very popular, which probably means that they are very nice.
If you'd called her Jane, people would struggle - Jayne? Jade? Janie?...
It's not the name it's them.
Watch the film. It's very sweet.

Onemorecornetto · 03/03/2018 13:14

It’s a lovely name. It was in my top 3 and dd said the other day that she would have liked to be called Amelie instead of the name we went with.
She really hated the other contender though so it’s lucky I didn’t chose that one!

llangennith · 03/03/2018 13:31

Amelie isn’t that unusual that people should have trouble with it. The three Amelies I know are all called ‘Ams’ for short.

LilaBlue · 03/03/2018 13:52

Don't go for Melly as a nn, too much like smelly.

Mimi is a popular nn around here for Amelie and Amelia

I would say though, if you still do y like it, change it. Maybe to her middle name?

SleepingInNewYork · 03/03/2018 13:54

It’s a lovely name. Surely people only need to be told once and if they don’t get it then, the problem is with them.

Busymummy34 · 03/03/2018 17:07

Lol I really should adopt this attitude that the problem is them :)

TatianaLarina · 03/03/2018 17:50

I have a friend called Amelia who is Ami - which is a lovely nn.
