Haley or Halley?

Premature thread considering me and my fiance are still TTC (still dreading to take a pregnancy test!) We are still very excited to be trying and we are talking about baby names. We have decided on a boys name, but we both like Haley or Halley for a girl. We would really love some opinions on which name you prefer of the two :)

Halley, but I would either spell it Halle (as in Berry) or Hallie.

Haley is very outdated, IMO and I knew a horrendous Hayley who threatened to punch me in the face a decade after I last saw her

ShiftyMcGifty · 20/02/2018 23:14

Haley will be mispronounced as Hai-ley. Halley can only be pronounced as Hal-ley.

ShiftyMcGifty · 20/02/2018 23:16

Oh see, I wouldn’t pronounce either spelling as Halle (berry) because you’ve got a “y” in there!

QuietNinjaTardis · 20/02/2018 23:17

How do you want it pronounced? Ha-Lee or hay-Lee? Halle or Halley for first, Hayley for the second.

DramaAlpaca · 20/02/2018 23:17

I think of Haley as a surname & Halley as a comet. I don't think they are pronounced the same and neither spelling looks right for a girl's name, to be honest.

I'd spell it Hayley or Halle/Hallie depending on the pronunciation you want.

Ok. I had wine. Blush

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 20/02/2018 23:18

Are you after Hayley or Hallie? Or is that the question? I prefer Hallie

peachypetite · 20/02/2018 23:20

They are two different names...

AlyTab · 20/02/2018 23:21

Sorry! I meant as two different names. Haley pronounced like Hay-Lee and Halley pronounced like Halle Berry

@peachypetite i know

I think they'll both be pronounced at Hayley.

peachypetite · 20/02/2018 23:29

I would spell it Hayley unless you're American

AlyTab · 20/02/2018 23:30

I knew as soon as I posted the question that I forgot to mention that I meant which name do you prefer, we can't seem to decide. I prefer Haley and he prefers Halley as in Halley's comet (he is big on astronomy).

What about Hallie? I think the Halley/ Haley spellings might be confusing and you’d get some varied pronounciations!

dinosaurkisses · 20/02/2018 23:33

Definitely prefer Halle/ Haley- Hayley/Halley is a bit early 90s

PaperdollCartoon · 20/02/2018 23:33

What’s wrong with Hayley?

PaperdollCartoon · 20/02/2018 23:34

Or even Hailey if you want to be interesting.

AfterSchoolWorry · 20/02/2018 23:34

Hallie

AlyTab · 20/02/2018 23:39

Nothing at all wrong with Hayley, I just think Haley looks more "neat"?. Hailey looks nicer though.

Emandjem · 20/02/2018 23:44

I prefer Haley to Halley.
Although, I do think if you go for this name you'll forever get people spelling it Hayley, as that's the most usual way it's spelt.

only one of those is an actual spelling of the name Hmm

Mistoffelees · 20/02/2018 23:50

I would pronounce both of those as Halle, go for the more traditional spelling of either so she doesn't get a lifetime of "Is it Halle or Hayley?"

LemonysSnicket · 21/02/2018 00:32

Both awful tbh

Failingat40 · 21/02/2018 00:38

Haley isn't pronounced Hay-lee though.

If you want people to call her Hay-lee you'd need to spell it traditionally as Hayley.

Cosmoa · 21/02/2018 07:02

Halley is my favourite and I like the connection to Halley's comet. I think it's nice that there would be a story/reason that it was picked!

Good luck with everything! Super exciting times for you Smile Flowers
