What are peoples thoughts? Its a name that both me and my husband like out of our lists.
Not sure what it would get shortened to however? Maybe Izzy which im not so keen on.
Anyone called Isolde or have a child called Isolde... what do you get called as a shortened version?

Can’t help with any of your questions but would love to know how to pronounce it properly!

Sarsparella · 19/02/2018 21:21

I’m not sure how it’s pronounced is my first thought?

Is it Is- old- e?

bringbackfonzi · 19/02/2018 21:23

I absolutely love the name Isolde, but only when pronounced properly i.e. i-zold-uh. Don't know about nicknames though.

windchimesabotage · 19/02/2018 21:25

Its Iz- old- ah

You can spell it Isolda (or Iseult) but we wanted the spelling from 'Tristan und Isolde' the opera as we thought that would be the most known version of it, and as its an unusual name we didnt want to make it extra hard to spell.

Sorry don’t like it. ItS a bit try hard

DavidPuddy · 19/02/2018 21:27

I've always liked it, it's a great name. I have never met an Isolde, though.

windchimesabotage · 19/02/2018 21:28

bringbackfonzi i-zold-uh yes thats what I meant. I think uh/ah depends on your accent but I wouldnt mind either one.

windchimesabotage · 19/02/2018 21:29

It is strange that its not more popular because Ive met about ten Tristans in my life!

I think she'd have a lifetime of people asking how to pronounce her name - "Is - older"? "Eye - sold"? That would make me cautious.

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 19/02/2018 21:32

I'm sorry OP, the first thing that came to my head is you sold what?

MushroomSoup · 19/02/2018 21:33

I like it. Nickname in my family would be Ize, then we’d sing ‘Jeepers, Creepers, where’d You get those eyes?’ And then she’d be known as Jeepers.

HTH! Grin

I love it.

It was on our shortlist for DD. I am surprised that people hesitate re pronunciation - I see it as a not-very-common-but-not-out-there name, one that everyone has heard before. Yes my first association would be the opera, also the mediaeval story, and the Welsh version (Esyllt) - all positive for me.

Barre · 19/02/2018 21:40

Fab name! I’d say it like you and I don’t think it would necessarily be shortened. It would be a shame if it got turned into plain Izzy.

windchimesabotage · 19/02/2018 21:42

Im glad to see that its not that 'out there'. Wanted something traditional and romantic but slightly unusual. My son has an old English name that isnt often used, so I think this would be a good match.

I know one who is known as Zoldie.

I like Isadora too.

windchimesabotage · 19/02/2018 21:59

Zoldie is pretty!!
Love Isadora but sadly makes me think too much of 'Wizardora' for me to be able to use it... id hear the theme tune each and every time anyone said the name!!

I know an Isolde, I really like it. I don't think she has a nickname.

Mrsknackered · 19/02/2018 22:27

Her siblings are called Salome and Beatrix, which go nicely.

TheLegendOfBeans · 19/02/2018 22:29

I like it but I always thought it was pronounced "izzold"?!

tinytoucan · 19/02/2018 22:35

I know an Isolde, she is usually called Izzy

Ojoj1974 · 20/02/2018 00:00

Sounds like I-sold-her...
Sorry I don’t like it

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 20/02/2018 00:06

Odelina
Odette
Ivette
Felicia
Avice

As alternatives?

HuskyMcClusky · 20/02/2018 00:08

I think it’s one of those names that looks a lot nicer than it sounds.
