What are peoples thoughts? Its a name that both me and my husband like out of our lists.
Not sure what it would get shortened to however? Maybe Izzy which im not so keen on.
Anyone called Isolde or have a child called Isolde... what do you get called as a shortened version?

I don't like it, and could foresee her getting a lifetime of "is old".

Buglife · 20/02/2018 07:23

I like it but I prefer how it looks to how it’s said of you know what I mean! I’ve always liked it after the opera. I wouldn’t have be guts to do it (I absolutely love Bathsheba like Bathsheba Everdene from Far From the Madding Crowd butfoukd never do it!)

RosaBaby2 · 20/02/2018 10:00

I love it, and Tristan is in my top 3 😬

Afternoon · 20/02/2018 10:03

It's a great name Smile

MollyHuaCha · 20/02/2018 10:09

I like it and assume it's pronounced Izz-ol-da.

The spelling though is Isolde. Beautiful.

user1485182339 · 20/02/2018 14:20

Cousin of a friend is an adult Isolde. Never met her as she lives on the other side of the country, but they sometimes refer to her as Zollie and Zolla. Issy probably nicer as a nn imo.

Thistlebelle · 20/02/2018 14:23

I think it’s lovely.

TulipsInABlueVase · 20/02/2018 15:09

It sounds like 'Is older'.

I can imagine that in school there wil be a lot of Ava 'is older' than Freddie. And your DD will be continuously correcting people and clarifying her name.

Contesse · 20/02/2018 15:12

Pronounced eye-zold-ah. I love it.

GUMBYMUMBY · 20/02/2018 15:13

It is a beautiful name. x

bridgetreilly · 20/02/2018 15:31

I love Isolde! Go for it.

dinosaurkisses · 20/02/2018 23:59

Beautiful! Underused in my name, and a lovely alternative to Isabella/ Isobel.

The Irish version, Iseult, is top of our list for DC2.

Cosmoa · 21/02/2018 07:29

It's just too awkward to say and not really nice enough for the hassle it will bring imo!

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2018 13:35

Iz-ol-duh. Zolly would be a fab nn.

windchimesabotage · 21/02/2018 14:18

I quite like Zolly actually yes!! Was thinking of Dolly which I do like but reminds me of the sheep.... so Zolly is a good alternative

Goldie is a nice name (was thinking about zoldie and Goldie popped into my head!)

midsomermurderess · 21/02/2018 20:05

Yseult could be an alternative but pronunciation might be an issue.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 21/02/2018 20:13

Love it! If you’re worried about pronunciation how about Isola?

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2018 20:15

The Welsh form is Esyllt, and is brilliant, but unless you are Welsh speakers in a welsh speaking community it's not so good.
Tristan makes me think of AA Gill.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 21/02/2018 21:55

Isola is lovely

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 21/02/2018 22:21

I think it's lovely and different and importantly not weird!

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2018 22:23

Is Isola pronounced IZZ-olla or Iz-O-la?

Harebellmeadow · 22/02/2018 09:52

Really love it. Beautiful and cultivated and rare.
My only thought is, whether it a “blonde” name that won’t suit a tanned brown haired DD? What do the Isoldes look like that people here know?

LadyChatterlysLoofah · 22/02/2018 09:55

Lovely, I also like Imogen. Less keen on the (almost) inevitable Izzie though....

TatianaLarina · 22/02/2018 10:23

Isolde is the later German version of the original Celtic Iseult/Yseult.

Love the orginal Celtic versions - much more beautiful.

Don’t like Isolde - too like Isobel which is boring and overused.

I’d stick with the original personally.
