DH and I cannot agree on boys name

He likes traditional, old fashioned names (Henry, Arthur, Aubrey etc) - I abhor them all. I like modern, European names but nothing too "out there". Detest all the currently popular names like Noah, Arlo etc (no offence!).

We are a French / Irish / Dutch / Italian / English mix. We have an Irish O'Surname so anything starting or ending in O is out. Or anything super Irish as a first name (which is a shame as i like many Irish boys names).

So far the only options we have are

Leon
Sebastien
Julien
Frédéric
Hunter (maybe too controversial, can't imagine our families liking it, or a baby being called that.., but we do both like it)

Help! I want a name that we both love? Any suggestions?

Frédéric would be spelt the French way otherwise the name wouldn't have the same meaning for us. I know what you mean though - there are many different ways to spell it.

I like Morgan but wonder if the Americans have made it into a cool girls name 🤔

We were the same and just decided to wait until he was born, two weeks of having him here and we kind of just felt a certain name was 'him'. Wait to meet him 😁

I would go for Hunter if you both really like it, its my favourite out of your suggestions too.

Cosmoa · 18/02/2018 22:14

Unless you live in America, I wouldn't worry about it! (in regards to Morgan)

Baubletrouble43 · 18/02/2018 22:16

Christopher shortened to Kit.

NameChange30 · 18/02/2018 22:22

Kit doesn’t really work in French though.

Lots of the cool short names don’t.

backaftera2yearbreak · 18/02/2018 22:25

I know two male Morgans

Really like them all except for Hunter which anyway doesn’t sound good in French as French struggle with H.

Love Sebastien and it works very well in French and English.

Other suggestions:

Gabriel, Raphael, Leopold, Thibault, Benjamin, Oscar, Augustin

HuskyMcClusky · 19/02/2018 11:55

Rafael.

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2018 11:56

Patrick. Ticks all the boxes.

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2018 11:59

Oh-apart from the not being too Irish box!

Patrick is one of those British names French people are called though.

MollyHuaCha · 19/02/2018 12:10

Leon
Sebastien
Julien
Frédéric

I like all of the above names, but really dislike Hunter.

NameChange30 · 19/02/2018 16:19

Ooh I love Thibault although I expect most English speakers would have no idea how to pronounce it, unless it was spelt Tibo or something!

Lifeofpies · 19/02/2018 18:10

Hi grumpy, like your names. Frederic and Sebastien best.
How about Etienne? We would have used it for DS but went with a welsh name instead (French/welsh/Scottish heritage). Most people seem to like it and it’s still fairly underused.

RickOShay · 19/02/2018 18:15

Love Hunter Grin

Roman

Rafael

Xavier

Raoul

Christian

Andrea

Lawrence
