Do you know any? Are they male or female? How old are they?

Thank you !

I know one, 4 yr old little boy. I like the name, although I was surprised when I first heard it. I am old enough to remember The Sweeney though, which might be why I was surprised.

Tillymintsmama · 10/02/2018 20:52

I know a 2 year old little boy called Regan. He's lovely! Xx

Outbackshack · 10/02/2018 20:53

Exorcist...it's all I think of. Never come across any but would assume female

FennyBridges · 10/02/2018 20:53

I really like it for a girl although unfortunately it is also the girl in The Exorcist (I'm pretty sure.)

italiancortado · 10/02/2018 20:53

3 teenage girls locally. I think it's a really harsh name

Novia · 10/02/2018 20:56

Isn't it also one of the nasty sisters in King Lear?

AdaColeman · 10/02/2018 20:57

I'd say Regan was a name for a girl, and her younger sister would have to be Cordelia.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 10/02/2018 20:57

I would assume female - makes me think of King Lear. Not a great association for me I’m afraid.

OlennasWimple · 10/02/2018 20:58

In the UK I know two boy Regans (both under 10). In the US I know two girl Regans (both over 10)

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/02/2018 20:59

I would assume female because of King Lear and the Exorcist.

I think it’s awful though.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 10/02/2018 20:59

I know one mid 40’s female, she is unpleasant just like her namesake in King Lear.
I really liked the name before I met her.

PeasAndHarmony · 10/02/2018 21:09

I know one Raegan (spellt like that) and she's a girl.

Regan reminds me of king Lear and she wasn't a nice character at all!

Pompom42 · 10/02/2018 21:10

Reegan she’s a girl around 10 I think
Her brothers/sisters all have presidents names

UrsulaPandress · 10/02/2018 21:11

Girl. Know if one.

scrabbler3 · 10/02/2018 21:14

I don't like the King Lear association but I don't think it's an awful name.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/02/2018 21:17

Her brothers/sisters all have presidents names

Intriguing! Is one of them Barack or Obama? Hoping no Trump. Surely not Bush or Nixon? I suppose I could see how you might want to use one of the following: Carter, Woodrow, Franklin, Theodore, Calvin, Herbert, Warren, Clinton, Lyndon, Kennedy, Truman. I'm assuming Ronald, Jimmy, George, John, Richard and Bill are too ordinary - nobody would automatically describe any of those as Presidents' names.

mude · 10/02/2018 21:30

Interesting, thank you all. Are these pronounced Ree-gn
Ray-Gn? Or any other?

OP posts:
Sugarhunnyicedtea · 10/02/2018 21:34

I know 3, two boys aged 13 & 14 and a girl aged 10. All pronounced Ree-gn

MrsFrTedCrilly · 10/02/2018 21:36

Ree-gn

Aridane · 10/02/2018 21:44

No, no - only King Lear’s Horrible daughter

blatblatblat · 10/02/2018 23:51

My exes niece was called Regan (prn Reegun) I guess she's be about 15 now. I'm really not keen.

FizzyGreenWater · 11/02/2018 10:48

Girl. Really horrid, both the sound and the associations!

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 11/02/2018 11:40

Wow! Lots of nasty comments. There's many names I absolutely loathe but I'm not sure I'd be so harsh. Hope my child doesn't meet any of you 😢

PaperdollCartoon · 11/02/2018 11:43

It’s an awful chavvy name.

Sugar this board is for critiquing names, it’s often harsh as people come here for honesty, doesn’t mean someone would be horrible to someone with that name.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/02/2018 11:46

Eh? What's nasty about what's been said here? Are we not allowed to have opinions on anything any more? People have pointed out that Regan in Shakespeare's King Lear is a horrible person. Others have bad associations with Ronald Reagan or with Regan from The Exorcist. A few people don't like the name because of the way it sounds. All perfectly reasonable responses to the original question.
