Valentine as middle name for boy

There's a chance I might have to have my baby this week, very possibly Valentine's day. Could I use Valentine as a middle name without sounding like a knob

Is it wanky? Will he hate me? I thought it might be nice to mark his birthday, and if it were any other saints days, I use those.

First name James, surname starts with F.

Umm. It's a lovely idea, but when he hits the teenage years and his friends find out, I can see him cursing you for it... All sorts of Stupid Cupid nicknames spring to mind! If you are set on it, maybe give him two middle names so he can just use one of them in public? Ie, James 'X' Valentine F...

ansolutely not set on it - a very recent development in baby naming idea, I really can't decide whether 'unusal/nice' or 'poor kid'

One of DH’s relatives was called Valentine and died as a young man in WW1. There is a big memorial to him in their family church. Not weird or faddy at all.

I like it, especially with your other names. Sorry to say but I think 'tease factor' depends on where he will grow up and who he will grow up with. If you think he is likely to go to a challenging secondary school for example, I would think twice about a name that could be considered pretentious. If you can see the path ahead and he is more likely to have friends whose parents might go for similar choices, then IME, a name like Valentine wouldn't stand out and be remarked upon as much, if at all. As an adult he might really like the uniqueness and thought behind it.

In my sleep deprived state, I misread the last bit as ‘first name, Jesus’ .

I think it’s nice to mark ‘special’ birthdays in this way, and I don’t think Calentibe is that unusual.

I know a man called Valentine, born on Valentine’s Day. As an adult there was no issue.

I know a child whose middle name is Valentino after Valentino Rossj - hasn't caused him any issues! I think names are so diverse now that kids don't blink an eye at a more unusual name, especially a middle name.

I like the name in itself but I guess it could lead to teasing, which is a bit of a shame. I think it might depend on your background whether he gets teased. Are some of his friends likely to have unusual names?

Yes I had considered the piss taking factor. People are quite conservative round here with kids' names. That said, I bearly know the surnames of many of DS' friends (never mind middle names!) but teenage years could be hard to ride out.

DH doesn't mind too much about middle names.

I’d give it as a first name for a boy. It’s cool. And shortened to Val. I think the teasing thing is overstated
