Valentine as middle name for boy

There's a chance I might have to have my baby this week, very possibly Valentine's day. Could I use Valentine as a middle name without sounding like a knob

Is it wanky? Will he hate me? I thought it might be nice to mark his birthday, and if it were any other saints days, I use those.

First name James, surname starts with F.

Like it! Especially if including a saint’s name is important to you.

NotAnotherEmma · 10/02/2018 10:29

Especially not as a first name as I see some idiot suggested. I grew up with an unusual name that I loathe as an adult and use my middle name instead.

You all are underestimating how creative and cruel children can be. Children just standout for their positive personality traits and talents not the stupid name their parents cursed them with.

NotAnotherEmma · 10/02/2018 10:30

*Children should standout

DerelictWreck · 10/02/2018 10:34

Could you shorten it? Middle name Val, Valen, Tino, etc?

Whether it's nice or not is personal choice, but he will get teased by other kids.

Sparklingbrook · 10/02/2018 10:36

Don't do it, it's awful.

I don't really see the point of middle names though.

Argeles · 10/02/2018 10:37

It’s a beautiful name - use it!

FlipflopFifi · 10/02/2018 10:40

👌

midsomermurderess · 10/02/2018 10:46

Down O’Porter and Chris O'Dowd called their son Valentine as a first name, so using it as a middle name, why not.

Eeeeek2 · 10/02/2018 10:49

How about 2 middle names? Put valentine as the 2nd one and then he doesn’t have to mention it at school

LadyKyliePonsonbyFarquhar · 10/02/2018 10:53

Valentin is quite common as a boy's name in France, Valentine is a girl's name. But that's probably not relevant to your situation so just ignore meGrin

daisypond · 10/02/2018 10:57

I like it. It's a very old name, though it perhaps more common on the Continent. It's fine as a middle name, though it's better to pick it because you like it rather than because the baby might be born on Valentine's Day - though it's no worse than Christmas babies being called Holly or Robin, etc, or autumn babies being called Autumn.

Slartybartfast · 10/02/2018 11:18

it was val doonican's middle name

floriad · 10/02/2018 11:53

Valentin(e) is a lovely name imo.

But the idea of giving it because he was born on Valentine's day is a bit wanky imo.

floriad · 10/02/2018 11:54

Or maybe not... Idk.

But it's a great name imo.

Lennythelion14 · 10/02/2018 12:12

Rather than Valentine how about Valentino? James Valentino has a lovely ring to it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/02/2018 12:13

Personally, I wouldn't.

villainousbroodmare · 10/02/2018 12:18

I was in college with a Valentine known as Val. Don't think it caused him any problems, certainly not at that stage.

GodShaveTheQueen · 10/02/2018 12:19

Completely and utterly gorgeous. One of the boys in my family has it as a middle name. I love it to bits.

HoratioNightboy · 10/02/2018 13:27

One of my friends was born on St. Valentine's Day and has it as a middle name. Never teased about it as far as I know. I agree with a PP who said any piss-taking would be down to who he mixes with rather than because of the name, which I think is quite nice.

Sophronia · 10/02/2018 13:50

James Valentine is very handsome.

Puttheknifedown · 10/02/2018 14:12

My son is a Valentine's baby and he is now 7 years old. I toyed with the middle name Valentino but in the end I went with something else. I REALLY REGRET IT! I soooo wish I'd gone with it, it's so cute, and everyone remarks on how brilliant his birthday is. You hardly ever use your middle name, so I doubt teasing will ever be a factor. Go for it if you love it! I prefer Valentino to Valentine though!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 10/02/2018 14:20

I'm not sure kids get bullied over this sort of thing, isn't that a bit like victim blaming ?
I think some kids bully others and they don't actually need a reason.

Exactly!

I think it's fine and nice, id go for it. I think there's maybe more hesitancy around using this particular saint's day for naming given the commercialisation of Valentine's Day i.e. people viewing it all as naff teddies?

MikeUniformMike · 10/02/2018 14:22

If he's born on pancake day you could call him Shrove.

TatianaLarina · 10/02/2018 16:40

Love it.

I don’t think any of my school friends know my middle name. I don’t think anyone cares.

MammieBear · 10/02/2018 17:01

Valentin as the European spelling
