So this has been our top list for a couple of weeks now, but we are making no progress. Charles, Tobias, Merrick, Abraham, Hugo, +Felix, Anselm and Clancy are hanging in there. We are really struggling! Inputs? Last time I posted I dropped Clancy from the main list after comments but I can’t quite get rid of it Grin

Anselm and Amos are great suggestions!

Namenameseven · 13/02/2018 07:27

Tobias is my DS’s name. It’s lovely, but most of our relatives keep calling him Toby and it drives me mad so just be warned.

It’s a lovely name though Smile

Merrick would just get “Eric?” for his entire life.

And you’d have to be happy with the possibility of Merry as a nickname, which is either girly or festive.

Someone mentioned Gilbert upthread. My friend has one, it works really well. Goes by Gil a lot.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 13/02/2018 09:12

I strongly dislike Merrick, Anselm and Clancy, but really like all your other choices! All lovely.

Merry is a cute nickname. With ds I contemplated calling him Merriwether so he could be nn merry (I hadn’t heard of Merrick then) Grin
I’m excited to find some Anselm fans have emerged! And a lone fellow Clancy fan- waves to Lizard!
I had thought of Gilbert, for me it’s very Anne of green gables.

Emmett?

BeansandSausages · 18/02/2018 20:51

I have a ds with one of these names (nn version) and love it. I find it strange that it is quite rare. More of an American thing, I think. I'm hoping it gains in popularity here.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/02/2018 21:27

Abraham (Abe) and Clancy are great, strong and cool.

Toby and Charlie are a little overused imo.

Felix is ok but not if you already have a ds with F

Xmamalovex · 18/02/2018 21:59

I love Hugo & Felix 💙
Never heard Clancy before but I think it could grow on me x

I was at the same dilemma not long ago, with my son. I searched the web and asked for help. I've encountered this post (kroovi.com/d/22772-picking-baby-names-is-hard-mn) that gave me some interesting perspectives. Might help!

(Sorry for the double)

Charles, Toby and Felix are omnipresent in every school nowadays. They are so normal and overused compared to your other names.

I like Anselm and I also like Ansel (as in the US nature photographer Ansel Adams).

I actually knew a boy called Clancy. Everyone called him Fancy Clancy. I’m not sure he thanked his parents.

How does knowing your neighbours kids' names help the op narrowing down her choices Confused

I like Abraham, Felix, Tobias and Clancy

timeisnotaline · 20/02/2018 08:03

Thanks DraylonHmm. I will keep Henry and Sophia in mind. I’m catholic enough that Abraham is not cultural appropriation (hence saint Anselm...) my ds will probably end up growing up in Australia so not so worried about your vair MC assumptions and means any names like Tobias will inevitably end up Toby, (tobez... sigh) I’m well aware of this.
Fancy Clancy ... oh dear. Grin
