James

Buxbaum · 07/02/2018 09:42

James.

There are So. Many. Jacks.

Dregsofcolazero · 07/02/2018 09:42

James. Jack is casual for John anyway isn’t it?

Johnnycomelately1 · 07/02/2018 09:43

James. I feel like Jack has had its time. It's a super popular name from 5 -10 years ago so feel almost dated now. James is classic.

Sunshinesaz86 · 07/02/2018 09:43

I like James. X

Try twenty! It was number 1 from 1996 - 2008 and is still number 4. There are adult Jacks from the beginning of its wave of popularity having their own children now...

ReelingLush18 · 07/02/2018 09:50

James every time.

bluebabydinosaur · 07/02/2018 09:52

Thank you all, really appreciated.

Not Jack there are too many of them!

Dd2 had a party, out of 7 boys, 5 were Jacks!

Footle · 07/02/2018 09:53

Jack. It's an evergreen name to me.

Namechangeuser · 07/02/2018 10:00

James

MammieBear · 07/02/2018 10:03

James, Jack has long stood on its own to be a given name though independent from John but I would say James over Jack any day.

HuskyMcClusky · 07/02/2018 10:04

James. I just think it’s a nicer name, regardless of trends.

Afternoon · 07/02/2018 10:05

It would be refreshing to hear James as a first name. It seems to be the go-to middle name at the moment.

dkb15164 · 07/02/2018 10:06

James definitely. If you really like Jack and have some Scottish in you, you could try Jock?

ChocolateCrunch · 07/02/2018 10:09

James

bluebabydinosaur · 07/02/2018 11:27

Thank you for your comments. Is James as popular as Jack? Are there many children called James around?

I like James better, but warn you there are also a LOT of Jameses. My DH, my brother, my boss, and my best male friend are all called James. Makes life very complicated!

However these are all grown men now, I'm not sure if it's still as prevalent. I also really love Jamie as a version of James.

ReelingLush18 · 07/02/2018 11:31

No James isn't very popular (not that I've noticed. None in DS's year group although here are 8 Bens, 7 Toms, 5 Alex's...), although no doubt there will be niche pockets of popularity around the country. My impression is that it's more popular in Scotland than in England. You could always diminutise James to Jake (which isn't so far removed from Jack!)

BusterGonad · 07/02/2018 11:37

James, Jack is very popular, James has lovely nicknames and is as good a name for a child as it is for a man.

bluebabydinosaur · 07/02/2018 12:14

Hello Buster Gonad - Do you mean James Jack as one name?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/02/2018 12:16

James every time. I like Jack but James is my favourite boys' name hands down. Sadly, it wasn't my husband's, so we went for something else for our son. Sad

abbey44 · 07/02/2018 12:18

James. I have a James (Jamie), he's 25 and I really like the name. Suits a man as much as a boy. Classic.

sallyarmy1 · 07/02/2018 12:21

Jackson.
