What are your thoughts on Victoria? I'm looking for a classic, timeless name but I'm terrible at making decisions so wanted some opinions/help or other classic name suggestions.

I like it and would agree that its timeless

MrsHathaway · 03/02/2018 16:06

Love.

HappyLollipop · 03/02/2018 16:08

I like it but hate the nn Vicky.

MrsHathaway · 03/02/2018 16:08

Sorry: other suggestions I feel are on the same shelf at the name shop would include ...

Catherine
Helena
Susannah
Elizabeth
Marianne

CluelessForever · 03/02/2018 16:10

Yes, I'm not that keen on the nickname Vicky either. There are other nicknames that I've heard such as Vi, Vita, Tori, I've even heard of a Toria and a Plum(!)...I think I prefer Tori out of those.

Love Victoria but hate Vicky

DramaAlpaca · 03/02/2018 16:13

I like the diminutive Vika for Victoria, as used in parts of eastern Europe.

ifcatscouldtalk · 03/02/2018 16:14

Years ago I had names like Victoria, Charlotte and Rebecca on my short list. The problem I had was I wasn't keen on the shortened versions of them. It is timeless and can't imagine lots of little Victoria's about.

poppyseed1663 · 03/02/2018 16:15

Love it. A timeless name and not a name I hear many young children being called at the moment.

MrsHathaway · 03/02/2018 16:18

You can use Queenie for Victoria or Elizabeth. Plum is cute too.

ffauxlivia · 03/02/2018 16:18

I know a gorgeous toddler called Victoria. Her parents sometimes call her Tori but she's mainly known as Victoria, and no-one ever calls her Vicky. I didn't think it would suit a baby/toddler but it really does!

daisypond · 03/02/2018 16:19

I like Victoria. I know a Vika as well, which is really nice. Vita? A name it its own right, but it works well for Victoria. You could play around and come up with others - Tia/Ria/Via/Oria, etc, which I think would be fine.

CluelessForever · 03/02/2018 16:23

@MrsHathaway yes I do like the nn Plum...I would just worry about her getting stick for that nickname though. I've seen a thread on here previously about the nn and people were really not fans of it. I do actually know a Plum. She has just gone to university and stuck to her given name of Victoria as when people asked why her friends from home were calling her Plum, and she explained it was her nn and everyone called her that, she just got really strange looks. Plum suits her far more than Victoria imo, she's a very sweet girl and I do hope that at least at home she continues to go by the name.

I absolutely love it.

sirlee66 · 03/02/2018 16:28

Gorgeous!!!

AnarchyKitty · 03/02/2018 16:32

Best name ever in my opinion.
I don't know why people stress over nicknames. The child will find her own in time.

ChocolateCrunch · 03/02/2018 16:41

I like Victoria, but really dislike Vicky. Love Plum as a nn and also Tori/Toria.

CluelessForever · 03/02/2018 16:48

Does anyone else know a Plum? What do you think of that as a nn?

OP posts:
daisypond · 03/02/2018 16:54

I think the problem with Plum is that nowadays people are less likely to think of Victoria plum, the fruit, but Victoria Plum, the bathroom company.

CluelessForever · 03/02/2018 16:59

Yes, especially now Victoria Plum bath company have taken the 'b' off that was originally in their company name

I love it. I know a few adult ones that go by either the full version or Tori. They all hate Vicky too!

CluelessForever · 03/02/2018 17:12

I love the name Rebecca as well, and also Emma. I don't hear Emma around a lot these days though, is it an unfashionable name or is it just unpopular where I live?

Charismam · 03/02/2018 17:13

I prefer all of mrshathaways 'on the same shelf' suggestions by a long way. Pick one of that list. Victoria is quite harsh. It's not timeless. It's a classic that goes in and out of fashion. Anna is timeless. Rachel is timeless. Sarah is timeless.

Charismam · 03/02/2018 17:14

Emma is very popular according to name charts but I don't know a child called Emma. I only know Amelias, Emilias, Emilys and Amelies. Emma is lovely.

TurquoiseDress · 03/02/2018 17:16

Victoria is most definitely a classic name!

I've not met any young girls with this name e.g. aged 10 and under.

Wonder where it features in the top 100/500 of baby names?
