I quite like it when you wrote how you say it, but I don’t think the spelling and pronounciation match. I read it as E-Lay-ah, which I didn’t love. Can the spelling be different somehow?

Not a fan of Elaya. In the words of Marian Keyes, it feels a bit cobbled together.

Lacks substance and I hate to use the 'c' word, but feels a bit common. I would never voice that opinion in real life. I'm only saying it here since opinions are being sought.

Couldn't agree more with everyone else re Mae. The world does not need another Someone Mae/May.

greendale17 · 02/02/2018 07:15

Elaya sounds made up

Mae is just awful

BedtimeTea · 02/02/2018 07:30

It is ok, new to me, I have never heard of Elaya before. I would end up calling her Ell (or Elly Mae or Ellie Mae, I think that is kind of cute as a nickname) .

People like differant names, go for what you want for your child. The only "Mae's" that I do know are people in my family/familytree who stuck it in to honour our mutual ancestor. Mae is a perfectly good name, it is used a lot because people do like it.

I know a little Ellia Mai. Im actuslly not sure if shes got 1 or 2 L in her name. I thought it sounded like a fancy twist on Ellie May. Its bad but your spelling is even more made up.

Not a fan of Elaya. Its made up.

How about Layla? / Leila
Elena?
Lena (like Denham)
Leia??!!! Grin

ronniebarkersauntie · 02/02/2018 07:44

I still can’t work out how you want it pronounced...
El-lay-ah
El-ly-ah

Your “ay” pronoinciation could be either depending on where in the country you’re from Grin

BWatchWatcher · 02/02/2018 07:47

El-ay-yah
Quickly becomes 'a liar' if you are a small child.
I'd rethink.

Only1scoop · 02/02/2018 07:49

Awful

Sounds like a tacky AI hotel somewhere grim

GinIsIn · 02/02/2018 20:51

It just sounds like someone trying to say ‘a liar’ with a bad Yorkshire accent - it’s dreadful!

HappyLollipop · 02/02/2018 20:59

I like it Elaya, I've never heard it before but it's very pretty but hate mae/may add on.

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 17:54

Honestly I can't see the issue! I think it's beautiful with Mae...

Also i don't understand why people can't pronounce it.. It looks so simple to me! But I'm pretty good at pronunciations.
