Joey for a boy?

It would be the full given name, the fact it is normally a nickname doesn't bother me.

I love Joe. For some reason I don't like Joey.

It makes me think of Joey from Friends nodding slowly and saying 'that's a good name - o wait! that's my name!'

It does have friends associations for me - how you doooin'?

I would put Joseph on the birth certificate, but that's just me. Joey is a nice name.

Its not a name I'd chose. But its not my baby. Its not a weird or out there name, so if you like it go for it.

Joey reminds me of a Budgie/Baby kangaroo, of the extremely annoying Joey Essex.

Joey is a lovely nickname to have but I'd want a more substantial name, myself.

The Joey I knew as a kid is very firmly “Joe” now and won’t answer to Joey at all - doesn’t like it despite only being Joey for about 19 years. He’s Joseph in full so no real issue, but for someone like him formally being Joey on bc would be very irritating (probably irritating enough to justify changing it given his strength of feeling). Personally I would go for the full version (whether that is Joseph or some other variation) and use Joey as a nickname. Just feels like that gives more options really.

I don't think any self-respecting man would appreciate being called Joey with no fall-back option.

I know a few adult joeys and it makes me cringe when I hear them being called it.

Joey is fine for a baby kangaroo but Joey will be a 45 year old at some point. It sounds like a diminutive.

Really don't like it, sorry. It's just not a name that sounds right on anyone past puberty, IMHO.

I don't mind it but much prefer it as an optional nn to Joseph or Jonah.

My little brother is Joseph. We was called Joey exclusively until about the age of 12. Then he decided he wanted to be Joe as he thought Joey was babyish. Now he's late 20's he mainly goes by Joseph as he uses it at work. We still call him Joey occasionally as a family but I think he's liked the ability to change it.

I think it's a bit like calling your Dad Daddy or Mum Mummy when you are small but you naturally change it to Dad and Mum as you grow older.

I'd call him Joe or Joseph on BC and call him Joey until if and when he wanted to be Joe etc.

The constant 'how you doin's from the Friends generation would get pretty tiresome.
