Having dd in May. Already have ds called Alex. We really like Alice for a girl.

The names are just too similar aren't they?

To my ear they do sound very similar. Do you have any other names you were thinking of? Smile

PotteringAlong · 20/01/2018 17:32

Yes, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2018 17:34

Both lovely names but just too similar for siblings.

Alicia maybe? Not quite as nice as Alice IMO but it would work with Alex.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 20/01/2018 17:34

Too similar

MountainVista · 20/01/2018 17:35

Afraid so, have been in a baby class where (boy) Alex was repeatedly called Alice by facilitator, much to his mum's chagrin. Can imagine having your name confused with sibling would be very frustrating for a child too.

Uhohmummy · 20/01/2018 17:38

I know someone with two DCs with these names and it’s confusing! So yes, too similar.

Standardpubquizname · 20/01/2018 17:39

Too close I think although both lovely name. Elise or Alicia would work perhaps

Mugshotzforlunch · 20/01/2018 17:42

I was in the same boat. I found them too similar.

RavenWings · 20/01/2018 17:43

Yes, too similar.

Minty82 · 20/01/2018 17:44

Ha, my siblings' names, at the risk of outing myself! My brother is always Alexander at home so it didn't occur to my parents it would be an issue. But everyone else calls him Alex so I guess other people might think it's a bit odd. There was another Alex/Alice sibling set in their respective school years though, so there are a few around!

ChocolateCrunch · 20/01/2018 17:44

Yes, they sound very similar. Elise is an option, or Alba, Aleisha, Alannah, Allegra.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/01/2018 17:44

Too similar

itsalltolookforwardto · 20/01/2018 17:51

We have the same taste. I had an Alice first and wanted Alexander for a boy. I had another girl so it wasn’t an issue but not sure if we’d have gone with it. How about Annie , I think it’s a lovely underused name.

greensnail · 20/01/2018 17:51

Yes too similar, I have an Alice and it gets confusing between her and her cousin Alex.

I personally think they’re too similar and wouldnt do it but I know some families who like similar names for siblings so it’s personal taste I guess!

How about Alyssa ?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/01/2018 18:06

Far too similar. Although my neighbours have a Jodie and a Joe so in affect a son and a daughter both named Joe. Seems to work for them. Each to their own, I suppose.

PandaCat · 20/01/2018 18:10

We have an Alice, when asked her name as a baby a few people thought we'd said Alex, so I think they do sound a bit too similar.
