Roman or Reuben

I have a little boy called Lucas and we're looking for a boys name for his baby brother. We are finding it hard to agree a name we both like. We are currently torn between Reuben or Roman?
What do you think? Or if there are any other names you think would go well with Lucas we're open to suggestions.
Thank you for your help.

My little nephew is called Reuben, it suits him!

Reuben or Ruben.

Never never never Roman. It's a lovely Polish name with a lovely city as well but it is mostly associated with a pedophile child rapist.

Mol1628 · 19/01/2018 05:01

Rueben. Or Rowan.

LMC84 · 19/01/2018 05:12

My son is Reuben
Good strong name

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/01/2018 05:16

Roman

ChocolateCrunch · 19/01/2018 06:39

Reuben

SuperBeagle · 19/01/2018 06:41

Reuben.

I like Roman too, but I think it's a more difficult name to pull off.

AuntieStella · 19/01/2018 06:48

I would go for Roman if you have any Eastern European connections (it's a common name there) and Reuben otherwise (Biblical names work across traditions, though OT ones in lesser use sometimes lead to an assumption of Judaism)

SellFridges · 19/01/2018 07:10

I like both. We have a Reuben, chosen over Roman as his sisters name is similar.

Friedgreen · 19/01/2018 07:16

Don’t like either.

If eastern european:
Marcus?
Nico?
Jacob/jakub?
Sasha / Sacha?

upshltcreek · 19/01/2018 07:43

Reuben.

Sportsnight · 19/01/2018 07:47

I don’t associate Roman with a child rapist. I can’t even think who you mean.

I think like a pp it helps if you have a Russian or East European connectionto carry off Roman.

I love the name Reuben though.

Mrsknackered · 19/01/2018 07:49

Roman. Love it

Mrsknackered · 19/01/2018 07:49

I like Reuben too but have known of a few little ones recently and the spelling variations would annoy me

AnyaMoondial · 19/01/2018 08:55

Reuben. Rowan as someone else suggested is also lovely.

MiniMaxi · 19/01/2018 10:54

I think PP is talking about Roman Polanski?
Bit of a niche reference, I wouldn't worry about it.

MiniMaxi · 19/01/2018 10:57

I like both btw. Marginal preference for Reuben I think. Oh and if you're looking for alternatives, how about Rohan?

MiniMaxi · 19/01/2018 10:57

Oh don't know what happened there sorry. I was going to say I like both and also Rohan as an alternative.

MiniMaxi · 19/01/2018 10:58

Oh for goodness sake! Sorry for spamming! My app is playing silly buggers.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 19/01/2018 11:10

I like Roman. There’s a little Roman at DC’s nursery, so the Polanski association has dwindled for me somewhat.

I think Reuben is nice too, but quite popular I think.

Lucylululu · 19/01/2018 11:35

Reuben! I also love Rudy!

DiddlySquatter · 19/01/2018 12:55

My BF has a dog called Rueben, so I can never think of it as a human name. For that reason I would go with Roman, I think of Roman Kemp when I hear it, as probably will most younger people.

DiddlySquatter · 19/01/2018 12:55

Reuben

Bobbypin05 · 19/01/2018 14:10

Thank you for your comments. We don't have any Eastern European connection but our surname is very Spanish. I hadn't heard of Roman the child rapist so don't have that association with the name.
We wanted something that would work with our surname that didn't sound too foreign, although I like the name Matteo DH think its to Spanish sounding.

The child rapist is Roman Polanski, (once famous for making films, now famous for being a sex offender). I don’t think of him especially, when I hear the name though.
