Writing for a friend. She loves the name Emory but is struggling with a middle name. She was playing around with ‘Emory summer’ but she would like some other options. Also she would like to know if it is spelt better Emery. Any suggestions welcome.

I've never heard Emory/Emery as a name. Tbh I think if I heard it I'd assume I'd misheard Emily.

TittyGolightly · 10/01/2018 22:14

Emery, surely?

Dermymc · 10/01/2018 22:15

I first read it as Emroy. Not sure I like it.

biscuitmillionaire · 10/01/2018 22:16

Board?

Littlechocola · 10/01/2018 22:16

Middle name should be one syllable

mamahanji · 10/01/2018 22:20

Board

Gammeldragz · 10/01/2018 22:20

Definitely Board. But maybe spelled Bored.

mamahanji · 10/01/2018 22:21

Damn. My wittiness was tardy

Think about what the child/adult will feel about being called emory as an adult. How can they live this down? Give the kid a proper name! A name lasts a lifetime. A name that suits a baby is not necessarily a name that suits a grown up

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 10/01/2018 22:24

I hadn't heard of these as names before, so googled- Emory is the name of an American University, and Emery, the first autocomplete is indeed Emery Board. I can't find anyone with this as a first name- Emory has been a last name very occasionally.

That said, I think 'Emory' is quite a nice name! It is similar to Summery though, so not sure about Emory Summer, but if you are going to make up names, this is a lovely one!

Dick?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/01/2018 22:27

Emory Coral
Emory Nicole.

Emory Scarlett

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 10/01/2018 22:29

Strike that- I found Emery on BabyCentre, and it does appear that there have been a few Emery's around in the past few years- perhaps not enough to have their own webpages yet.

I think it sounds nice anyway.

MiniAlphaBravo · 10/01/2018 22:29

M? Since this isn't actually a name or even a word and is memory with the m missing. I would try to dissuade your friend, if you feel it's appropriate.

MikeUniformMike · 10/01/2018 22:29

Dick Emery - not a good association

MikeUniformMike · 10/01/2018 22:31

It sounds a bit like she wanted something like Emma and came up with Emmary in the same way as my pal who describes a meal as being pastary (like pasta) or a house thing as ikeary (like ikea).
It's awful.

Haint · 10/01/2018 22:31

Well as the first name is a random collection of letters why not carry on the theme? Hodif, llopja, Mofde? That kind of thing?

TittyGolightly · 10/01/2018 22:35

Grin

Or indeed any item name from Ikea.

Emory Fnerp.

Emory joy
Emory Joan
Emery Leigh
Emery rose

To be honest it does sound like a misheard Emily. It's different and I quite like it, but perhaps not going to be a popular choice so your friend should prepare for that.

MikeUniformMike · 10/01/2018 22:38

It's a real name but it's a surname. OOh it is awful but I don't like it.
