As simple as that really. Baby girl due in 1 week. DH and I can't agree on a name.

1 daughter already named Rowan.

After a million hours on nameberry and many vetos we have narrowed it down to a 1st and 2nd choice each.

Mine: Adeline (1st choice); Lyra (2nd choice)
His: Kaila (1st choice), Narcissa (2nd choice - don't get me started)

Any further suggestions?

Why do they have to 'go' together

To convey some sort of parity? Especially parity of parental esteem.

Otherwise Rowan's sister Narcissa ends up with a complex about why she was viewed so differently to her sister. As potentially could Chardonnay. Or Agnes. Or Trixie. Or Jane. Or Ethel.

But Wren, Juniper, Clary or Rose are more obvious matches.

And so are Seren, Greta or Bethan.

I wonder if this how some people choose their husbands!

Why? Confused

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 14:15

Nerissa is very pretty.
Rowan and Briar are a bit too much together, so that also rules out Hazel. Iona is nice but think how it sounds with your surname. (Iona Gunn, for example).
Isla is pretty but very popular, as is Freya.
Wren is awful. Please don't use it.
Robyn might be ok but your children would sound like knitting pattern companies.

FizzyGreenWater · 05/01/2018 15:18

Agree on Wren - it looks lovely written down but then you say it. Ren. As in 'and Stimpy' Confused

LOL at knitting patterns!!!!

I've got my head under a blanket, MNing through a vicious three day headache. DH is doing invoicing.

I just said to him "There's a debate about whether 'Wren' is a nice girls name on Mumsnet. What other bird species would work as an unusual name?"

"Swallow?"

"No! Thrush?"

"Of course not. Robin?"

"Thats already a name"

Maybe we shouldn't have any more Grin

ProseccoMamam · 05/01/2018 16:03

I love Adeline but Rowan and Kaila has a nice ring to it

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 16:32

Wren just makes me think of Rem, which in my youth referred to the "Remedial" class.
Wrens are lovely birds but so are tits.

lollipop7 · 05/01/2018 16:33

@MikeUniformMike no Wren is not awful.
If you saw my little Wren you’d think otherwise!

PhuntSox · 05/01/2018 16:56

Lark!

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 17:36

I'm sure your Wren is lovely. I'll pretend you're a huge fan of Sir Christopher and shut up.

RickOShay · 05/01/2018 17:42

what about Kiya?

FizzyGreenWater · 05/01/2018 18:06

There's Linnet of course, which IS objectively lovely.

And Vulture.

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 18:06

Heron

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 18:07

I like Linnet but don't like people pronouncing it Lynette.

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 18:08

Kaia/Kaiya is nice.

Starling?

NataliaOsipova · 05/01/2018 18:10

Adeline. I take it nobody here ever watched the comedy show Bread, which was on in the 1980s/1990s. The name Adeline always has rather humorous associations for me.....

allegretto · 05/01/2018 18:14

I know an 8 year old Narcisa (one S). I think it is quite a well-known name in Romania, but I would probably avoid because of the narcissistic connotations.

I like Lyra and Adeline - how about Adeliza or Adela? (Both "royal" names).

Kaila reminds me too much of kale.

Mrsknackered · 05/01/2018 19:53

I really like Lyra, what about Raya?

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 19:58

The Boswell sister on Bread was Aveline not Adeline. Both names are horrible though.
Adeliza sounds like something you'd put on your hair. Adela is awful.

Rowan and Raya would be too much.
Roya is nice but not with Rowan.

The Boswell sister on Bread was Aveline not Adeline.

You're right! I stand corrected. Still imagine those earrings though.....

BlackberryandNettle · 05/01/2018 23:26

Difficult... I prefer your choices by a mile.

Narcissa is really awful, people would immediately think 'narcissist' and it just sounds poisonous/like the witch in a fairytale. Narcissa and Cruella. Sorry that is very harsh!

Kayla just sounds a bit made up and like a shortening of Michaela.

Maybe Katia? Nerissa? Marissa?

BlackberryandNettle · 05/01/2018 23:32

Rowan and.. Skye? Ivy?
