As simple as that really. Baby girl due in 1 week. DH and I can't agree on a name.

1 daughter already named Rowan.

After a million hours on nameberry and many vetos we have narrowed it down to a 1st and 2nd choice each.

Mine: Adeline (1st choice); Lyra (2nd choice)
His: Kaila (1st choice), Narcissa (2nd choice - don't get me started)

Any further suggestions?

I like Kaila and Lyra from your list. Also like:

Willow
Hazel
Laurel
Eden
to go with Rowan.

Totally agree with waiting to meet your baby. Open up your shortlist so you haven't got it too fixed and then see what you feel like when she's born.

Love Adeline, and agree, Larissa is beautiful.

countycouncil · 04/01/2018 11:21

There was a model on Project Runway called 'Lyris' which I thought was lovely. Made me think of flowers and music.

Narcissa- based on this name isn’t it ? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_(mythology). Oh dear ....

JessYouMe · 04/01/2018 11:25

Lyra is beautiful, it was on my list for a girl!

strawberrypenguin · 04/01/2018 11:42

You can’t have Narcissa is very Harry Potter and all anyone will think of.

jellypi3 · 04/01/2018 12:31

Thanks all, I think we will take a break and see when she gets here.

Good suggestions though!

How about another slightly unusual plant name to go with Rowan?

Hazel
Ivy
Zinnia
Clover
Violet
Olive
Sorrel
Lilac
Marigold
Briony
Laurel
Willow

This is a classic case of both of you spending FAR too much time thinking through names and talking yourself out of every possible option apart from some left-field ones, which after months on baby name websites are the only ones left which don't have something wrong with them or look boring.

Adeline is ok but isn't particularly nice. Lyra same. Seems such a shame when Rowan is a great, nice, normal name and there are so many names which go better with it. You've had a couple of great lists on here already, I'd suggest Saskia, Sadie, Hebe, Manon, Anna/Annie, Zara.

Step away until she's born and really, go back to some top 100 names and put them alongside Rowan. I think you'll regret the choices you have now when the madness fades.

OrlandaFuriosa · 04/01/2018 12:43

Adeline pretty, are you pronouncing Adeleen or Ad e line?

Two other N options, Nerissa instead of Narcissa, Nerissa was Portia’s sister in the Merchant of Venice, or Nerine, really pretty flowers, picks up the botanical theme.

And instead of Adeline, Adelaide? Or Adelheid, Heidi?

OrlandaFuriosa · 04/01/2018 12:44

And another sort of N sounding one, Irene. (I reen ee for pref though I do know people called I reen) .

lollipop7 · 04/01/2018 12:45

My daughter is called Wren
If you want a nature theme I think Rowan & Wren are very sweet.

Ohmyfuck · 04/01/2018 12:46

Narcissa is really not a good idea. Anything but that.

Battleax · 04/01/2018 12:48

Sorrel and Wren are both lovely suggestions.

changeforthebetter5 · 04/01/2018 13:42

What about Nerissa instead of Narcisca, I think Nerissa was a Shakespearean character?

NinonDeLenclos · 04/01/2018 14:07

Don't like any of the shortlist.

I like the idea of another plant name - Violet, Briar, Briony, Aspen, Willow.

PhuntSox · 04/01/2018 14:13

Seren
Roberta
Adelaide

PhuntSox · 04/01/2018 14:14

Ophelia
Kezia
Adah
Delphi

TatianaLarina · 04/01/2018 16:55

Rowan and Briar or Briony is lovely.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 04/01/2018 16:58

Adeline doesn't go with Rowan (which is lovely) at all. Lyra goes better, but I'm not keen on it. The less said about your dh's choices the better (esp Narcissa).

How about Ada or Lara?

MikeUniformMike · 04/01/2018 20:24

Don't like any of your choices. None of them are remotely nice.
Rowan's great though. I second Fizzy's suggestions.

susurration · 04/01/2018 20:27

I also saw the name Juniper before too.

Lotsalotsagiggles · 05/01/2018 00:24

I babysit a girl called Adena and like the name!

PhuntSox · 05/01/2018 12:59

What about an island name, Isla, Iona, Bryher

GreenTulips · 05/01/2018 13:46

Why do they have to 'go' together

I wonder if this how some people choose their husbands!
