Unique and unusual...

Vicks30 · 22/12/2017 21:42

I have two kids, 1 boy and 1 girl. Whilst pregnant I wanted names that were either unique or uncommon. So my son is called Taige Jamie (pronounced Tage) and my daughter is mckenzie scout. People always love my sons name as it is extrememley rare especially in this country. They always comment on how cool it is, we’ll when they can say it right. Not to mention he shares his birthday with his cousin who is called Paige 😂 My daughter is obviously a bit more common but not so much in this country. We mainly call her Kenzie or kenny. Anyone else got some unique names?

Most people on mumsnet like to be anonymous. You have posted enough on this thread that anyone can do a quick Google and find out exactly who you are - that probably doesn't bother you too much as you have posted full identifying information on other websites but most people prefer a bit more privacy so probably won't share their unique children's names here to make themselves so easily trackable.

NotAgainYoda · 23/12/2017 07:34

What Orinoco said

mrspatel77 · 23/12/2017 08:52

@OrinocoDugong how do you know what she is posting on other websites?
Maybe you could have just said it a bit nicer instead of assuming she isn't bothered? I wouldn't have known that so why would she.

Farrar · 23/12/2017 08:56

I have no idea how you would find out who the poster is, why someone would take the time to do that and why a person would care? It's not like this is a sensitive post either..

soup00 · 23/12/2017 09:06

Some people have WAY too much time on their hands!

Joeybee · 23/12/2017 09:41

All the poster was asking is if anyone has used and unique names, I don't think it was supposed to be a post to encourage people to give personal information away.

Please be careful what you share, if you have posted about your children elsewhere publicly, it's very easy for the wrong person to find out more about you.

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2017 09:51

OP, that is such a foolish thing - it's taken me less than 3 minutes and I now know your full name, the full names of your children, what town you live in and can see pictures of your children on the Internet, I know what school at least one of your children goes to.

People post way too much public information on the Internet.

uktired · 23/12/2017 10:55

Are you looking for an older and unusual name, or a more modern unusual name?

This might not be a problem for you @op, depending on where you live, but Taig (pronounced Tay-g) is a horrible word for a Roman Catholic in NI.

en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/taig

Or is your ds’s name more like Tay-j to rhyme with page?

Thought it was worth mentioning, in case you’re choosing a very unusual name for next dc too Smile.

Only1scoop · 23/12/2017 14:29

Captain

Exactly what I thought

k2p2k2tog · 23/12/2017 14:31

I'm in the West of Scotland and the sectarian slur was immediately what sprung to mind with Taige too.

I'm all for choosing names which aren't Emily or Oliver. But there are so many underused names out there that there really is no need to come up with some cobbled together, misspelled atrocity in the quest to be yoo-neek

Vicks30 · 23/12/2017 15:18

I didn’t post any surnames or any other private details. Some people are too paranoid. I merely posted some first names which generally everyone does. I am not the only one. If you didn’t like the post don’t need to comment. I am a grown women and don’t need condescending prats telling me what and what not to post. If you have all the time in the world and are creepy enough to stalk someone then I think your the one with the problem. Get off your high horse and keep your opinions to yourself.

I’m not pregnant yet lol, and don’t plan to be but when I am I like Jesse and Kai for a boy and madison and Skye for girls. When I named my son I couldn’t find a meaning for it and it was solely based on a Belgian roller skater I liked when I was 15 which was Taig I just added the e. Most of my family have more traditional old era names. I just don’t want to be another Alfie or Oliver or amelia or Olivia.

No, I don't have a problem. However I have had a job which involves advising on internet security and what you posted is a red flag.
Still, it's your problem not mine.

Vicks30 · 23/12/2017 17:31

Okay, I wasn’t talking about you I was talking about the rather rude person who talked to me like I was a child. What you said I didn’t regard as rude. I’m not sure how if any way you saw any stuff of the internet of me as my profiles for all social media are private. Well should be as I always set my privacy setting as private apart from friends.

I hadn't heard about the roller skater, but I've just looked him up and- my word! - he's had an absolutely extraordinary life: www.onoffapp.com/about/

According to his website, Taig (with two dots over the i) is an Algerian name, invented by the skater's parents, based on an Arabic word meaning 'capable'. I honestly don't know how he says his name, but in France, where he was brought up, a spelling like that would traditionally be pronounced 'Tah-eeg'. However, his name is not traditional and, since he has a worldwide, multi-lingual following, he and his fans may well say it very differently.

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2017 17:56

OP I've sent you a message about internet privacy settings, HTH.

Vicks30 · 23/12/2017 17:57

I was aware he was from Belgium, my bad, i was well into inline skating back then and I just loved the name and since I was 15 I vowed that when and if I have a son that’s what I will call him. But with a bit of a twist 😊

bilbodog · 23/12/2017 18:37

Good luck to your kids who will spend their whole lives spelling out their names and being annoyed when they are continually spelt wrong. What is wrong with normal names ?

overnightangel · 23/12/2017 18:45

“People always love my sons name as it is extrememley rare especially in this country. They always comment on how cool it is,”

You sound great Confused
It’s a name. People on the who generally DGAF

Vicks30 · 23/12/2017 18:48

But what’s normal anymore? This is the 21st century wher the whole ideals of normal have been lost for decades. My son loves his name and knows it’s very unusual and he’s a unique little boy, like every child Is. He just has a very invidual name, that not many people have.
