Unique and unusual...

I have two kids, 1 boy and 1 girl. Whilst pregnant I wanted names that were either unique or uncommon. So my son is called Taige Jamie (pronounced Tage) and my daughter is mckenzie scout. People always love my sons name as it is extrememley rare especially in this country. They always comment on how cool it is, we’ll when they can say it right. Not to mention he shares his birthday with his cousin who is called Paige 😂 My daughter is obviously a bit more common but not so much in this country. We mainly call her Kenzie or kenny. Anyone else got some unique names?

I’m glad you mentioned that in-line skater op! He does seem really cool and I see why you’d choose his name.

I’m a French speaker and think Taïg would normally be Tah-eeg in both France and Belgium, due to the dots over the i. You’re right though, your ds just has a little twist on the name and you won’t have more than one in a class etc.

If you happen to meet anyone from NI who looks a bit Hmm at you when you say it, it’s because it’s not a nice word in NI. But I think it’s pretty specific to NI and parts of Scotland.

I LOVE Jesse! It’s one of my favourite ever boy names but dh has vetoed Sad. If you ever have another ds, please use it for me Wink!

OP, I think you need to get this post removed as you can be tracked down online within minutes (if not seconds). I appreciate you are a grown woman and it might not bother you but it could be an issue to your children either now or in the future.

Namechangedsothere · 23/12/2017 19:29

How are you all finding out this deeply personal stuff? I typed their names into Google and Facebook (only out of interest OP I’m not a weirdo I swear it) and literally nothing came up! Maybe I just wouldn’t make a very good stalker🤔

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2017 19:31

MNHQ are aware. OP has had advice on improving her internet security settings and is going to have a look at them.

Kpo58 · 23/12/2017 20:26

So what does your DD think of having a surname and job description as a name?

FartnissEverbeans · 23/12/2017 20:55

Why are people being such dicks on this thread?!

I think the OP gets the message ffs. She's allowed to post whatever she wants online and a simple warning would have sufficed. I can't believe someone has actually taken the time to google her children! It's not only condescending but also incredibly intrusive and unnecessary.

And now people are slagging off (and that is the appropriate term for what is going on in some posts here) her kids' names?!

Such stupid, childish behaviour. Mumsnet makes me so proud sometimes but it also makes me feel embarrassed and ashamed to be a part of it when I see threads like this.

EleanorXx · 23/12/2017 21:56

Why are people being utter twats in this thread? First they go all condescending about Internet safety, then they insult her kids names.

Only1scoop · 23/12/2017 22:39

Cringe

Sorry 'my bad'

CremeFresh · 23/12/2017 22:50

Namechanged I did the same - nothing came up .

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 26/12/2017 04:05

God - can't believe the patronising posts here!

It may be identifying but OP can write their
info wherever they like Confused

To be fair Taige (pronounced Taig) is an offensive sectarian slur. Not sure if that’s how OP is pronouncing it but it will seem Hmm to anyone in Ireland, NI or Scotland. It diesn’t Have pleasant connotations.

In terms of the internet security stuff, I think people are just trying to be helpful - do need to be so defensive. They could just as easily have not offered the OP any advice or support - it comes from me a good place.

CaptainChristmas · 26/12/2017 21:44

There has been the odd harsh comment about the op’s dcs’ names tbh, which there’s no need for. Not really the comments related to taig being an offensive word in some places, I don’t think. It’s not like the op knew it was considered an offensive word, so I don’t see why anyone would want to get arsey with her for using it accidentally. I expect the op has no plans to move to Ireland or Scotland any time soon, so don’t expect it will be a huge problem for her or her ds. Peter (péter) is the verb ‘to fart’ in French and Pippa means masturbate, (or something), in Spanish (I think) and nobody bats an eyelid at those being used in the uk. Equally, nobody freaks out if someone mentions on here that those names have other meanings in other cultures. It’s fine to point it out I think? Thankfully, taig is a word that hasn’t made it out of Ireland and Scotland yet and I hope it’s dying out in NI too, along with sectarianism in general.

The op and her ds obviously love the name the way it is, so really, who cares if it isn’t the same as the usual pronunciation of the French name? Maybe the skater pronounces his name differently too.

I have no idea re the internet security stuff and I have zero inclination to look up the names to find out. Clearly the op is aware. If she wasn’t before this thread, then I’m sure she is now, and she seems happy enough to leave it as it is, so I guess that’s that.
