I'm stuck. I love them both for a girl. Just a bit of fun really but would love to hear what other Mumsnetters think!? Grin

Both are nice, but I prefer Iris I think

WishICouldThinkOfSomethinWitty · 19/12/2017 15:13

I love the name Ivy! Although both are older, more "vintage" names I think Iris sounds a bit Grandma where as Ivy is lovely.

WishICouldThinkOfSomethinWitty · 19/12/2017 15:14

And when I hear Iris, I just think of eyes.

MongerTruffle · 19/12/2017 15:18

I prefer Ivy, unless you have another daughter named Holly.

NineFortySixPM · 19/12/2017 15:19

Love both, would have plumped for Iris if DS had been a DD. And Iris won over Ivy only because I was worried that people might think poison ivy, and to a lesser extent because we have pale, pale ghost white skin and blonde hair/blue eyes and in my head an Ivy would be dark haired and dark eyed. But I am probably being silly on that front especially as there is a beautiful Ivy on BNTM this series and she’s very fair

horatioisabrick · 19/12/2017 15:23

They're both lovely. But I agree with a pp, Ivy and Holly would be a bit much...

Navegante · 19/12/2017 15:27

Iris

ziggymarl · 19/12/2017 15:40

Aww thanks guys! First daughter for us so no Holly's around here haha.

I do love Ivy it feels more current but at the same time I love Iris because it sounds more classic.

Regardless if we had another daughter in the future she would get the name we don't go for.

I prefer Iris.

Mrsknackered · 19/12/2017 15:42

Iris. I love Ivy too though

deptfordgirl · 19/12/2017 15:54

Iris

Smoliver · 19/12/2017 16:33

Both names are gorgeous. Somebody slightly ruined Ivy for me by mentioning that it reminded them of an IV drip! I still love the name though Grin

Rockandrollwithit · 19/12/2017 16:38

Ivy.

NannyR · 19/12/2017 16:39

Personally I don't like Iris at all, to me it is an old lady name from my grandparents generation along with names such as Doreen, Irene, Mavis etc.

youokayhun · 19/12/2017 16:39

I have an Ivy, whom we often refer to as poison ivy!!!

ChocolateCrunch · 19/12/2017 16:41

I like both, but Iris just pips it, I think

DramaAlpaca · 19/12/2017 16:42

I prefer Ivy.

blardyfeck · 19/12/2017 16:43

Personally I prefer Iris

PissedOffNeighbour · 19/12/2017 16:45

Ivy Smile

ziggymarl · 19/12/2017 17:45

A real mixed bag here but At least most of you like the names! Xmas Grin

I really like Ida, just to throw a spanner in the works ! 😄🌸

daisypond · 19/12/2017 19:06

Iris is better than Ivy. Ivy is a weed. At least Iris is a nice flower.

HonestlySomePeople · 19/12/2017 19:11

Iris is lovey

LeahG94 · 19/12/2017 21:32

Ivy is my choice

RavenWings · 19/12/2017 23:10

Ivy by a mile.
Iris just = eyes for me. I don't think it's a pretty sound.
