Really leaning towards a kind of unisex name now and I'm very drawn to Lennox for my baby girl. She's due 7th March but my last came early so honest opinions most welcome as struggling so much to decide (my turn this time as partner decided for last daughter).

Thanks all Smile

I know a grown up female Lennox. She chose it as her own name - she was something else as a child. She is fabulous and feminine, and also very artistic. It’s not a name I would have chosen for a girl but it’s amazing how quickly you get used to something a bit different - now I love the sound of it. So it CAN work OP, if you love it.

AlmostChristmas · 20/12/2017 18:04

Sorry definitely sounds masculine.

How about Lena- pronounced Len-ahh?

MissBax · 20/12/2017 18:24

Why do you want an ambiguous name?

Ivehadtonamechangeforthis · 20/12/2017 18:26

Definitely a boys name, I know of three!

LovelyBranches · 20/12/2017 18:32

How about Leni?

Potteryprincess30 · 20/12/2017 22:23

Thanks @Horseshoe1 it does have a nice sound to it I thought

@mussidenn I knew it had been used for both boys and girls in America for generations but had not heard of a connection so much closer to home. Nice story to hear from you, even if it was a stage name perhaps Smile

@mussidenn she's on IMDb born as a Lennox Milne born 1909 so guess over a hundred years ago in Scotland one of her parents had the same name idea as me. Amazing Wink

I've surprised myself with how much I like Lennox for a girl actually! It's not my normal taste, and I like Cameron and Marlowe very much.
Hadley sounds a little chavvy to me (sorry Blush )

YESitsanextender · 21/12/2017 14:43

When I first heard it on Melissa and Joey I though it sounded a bit like lummox Blush but it did grow on me and as you say, it’s not a new idea

There are far worse names suggested on MN every day, if you love it then go for it

midsomermurderess · 21/12/2017 15:40

Ronnie Grace is the way to go, a winner.

helpmum2003 · 21/12/2017 15:56

I think Eden is a good option - certainly not girlie but not overly masculine either. Lennox sounds like a surname or boy's name.

k2p2k2tog · 21/12/2017 17:40

Dylan? Cameron? Jamie? These are unisex names imo

No, those are boys' names too.

Potteryprincess30 · 21/12/2017 17:45

Thanks for your positive response @WashingMatilda Smile

I'm not totally sold on Hadley either as it doesn't really have appealing nick name potential for me personally. But I'm open minded to nearly all names so have put a few of your suggestions on my short list everyone!

So true.

Eden is a pretty name. The only Eden I know is artistic and creative and it suits her.

I do think Hadley's a bit grim, and to a lesser degree Harley.

ElizaDontlittle · 21/12/2017 17:58

I'm not keen on Lennox, but I do know a female Cameron and a Jamie, and I quite like Harley and Eden, and agree with PP Arden is nice too.
I like Rowan, Hilary, Leigh and Lexi too from others' suggestions.

mrspatel77 · 22/12/2017 18:40

Not for a girl!

Potteryprincess30 · 22/12/2017 21:27

@YESitsanextender I appreciate the declaration that 'there are far worse names suggested on mn every day' put out there. I have just settled on a style that is definitely not to everyone's tastes, but certainly not as out of the box or wild as some of the names I not only see on here, but actually hear every day living in a city, surrounded by many different types of people from many different types of cultures and social groups. I can also understand other peoples worlds are more sheltered and perhaps conservative so they are fearful of 'different'.

Saying that I am very open-hearted and minded and I really don't mind any type or style of name really too much. Certainly only in a knee jerk kind of 'No' rather then the really angry and emotional response some names get on here.

I have my individual preferences but very keen on others opinions and reasons that certain names don't ring right for them. It is a devil choosing though through the hormones and pregnancy scatter brain, there's worse things to worry about I know but I do wonder about name regret and hope I make a decision in the end that is right for our family and the new baby

and I think the correct term now for these kind of names is 'Gender-Neutral' Smile

OP posts:
froshiechipandbrickie · 22/12/2017 21:39

But is it really gender neutral?

Giving a girl a name that’s commonly used for boys doesn’t necessarily make it gender neutral in my personal opinion.

froshiechipandbrickie · 22/12/2017 21:45

But then again, I rather like Farley and Lee as girl’s names (also surnames that have been used as masculine given names).

But I personally really don’t like Lennox. Eden is lovely and Hadley is rather nice as well imo.

Potteryprincess30 · 22/12/2017 21:51

@froshiechipandbrickie I think the definition is no longer about personal opinion.

It is now just what this style of name is know as in 2017. In the year 2025 they will no doubt be referred to as something else, or undoubtedly some 'gender-neutral' names will become 'feminine' or 'masculine' again. But here and now it is just what they now are considered, listed, or referred to as Smile

For individuals who are themselves identifying as gender-neutral, or gender-fluid ect I don't think one could argue that our personal opinion of them referring to themselves as such was 'wrong' in anyway as it is not only a contemporary term of reference but also what they are choosing to define themselves as.

I am choosing to define these names for my daughter as 'gender-neutral' or/and 'unisex' so the same thing kind of applies in this case also.

Its a post and discussion about peoples opinion on names I and we collectively have put across to each other, so always interesting when people get stuck on the terminology....that really is a totally different debate/forum Confused

OP posts:
Potteryprincess30 · 22/12/2017 21:55

but thanks @froshiechipandbrickie for bringing 'Farley' to the table! I absolutely love that Smile. Its going to be so tough to decide. I honestly still really like Lennox but have equal feels for Farley and Eden, and still a very soft spot for Harley too Hmm

OP posts:
Potteryprincess30 · 22/12/2017 21:56

All those names do admittedly sound ridiculous when read all together though! Grin

OP posts:
Potteryprincess30 · 22/12/2017 21:57

Farley has seriously strong nick name potench @froshiechipandbrickie
