Really leaning towards a kind of unisex name now and I'm very drawn to Lennox for my baby girl. She's due 7th March but my last came early so honest opinions most welcome as struggling so much to decide (my turn this time as partner decided for last daughter).

Thanks all Smile

I don't like it. It's a surname or a boxer's name.

CocoLoco87 · 18/12/2017 14:20

I see it as a girls name after watching Melissa & Joey. Lennox is a teenage girl, very pretty with great hair so that's what I think of!

It's not to my taste but i wouldn't assume it was a boy if I heard the name.

Potteryprincess30 · 18/12/2017 15:06

I've never heard of Melissa and Joey but glad someone else doesn't think it's too awful! I also like names Hadley, Marlowe, Harley, Eden, Cameron... I'm just trying to figure out a balance between strong, different, but exceptable in the world. I'm not a fan of cutesy names on girls (not my girls anyway) but understand they can really suit other little ones.

I'd like to give my daughter a name which is ambiguous gender wise, so this is why these type of names appeal to me. But I'd hate for people to think what I choose is horrible so thanks for all the opinions Smile

I like e Cameron as in Diaz. Also like Camden.

ladystarkers · 18/12/2017 15:10

Lennie

missymousey · 18/12/2017 15:43

Eden is lovely. Lennox, Hadley, Cameron, Marlowe - I think of these as surnames that could reasonably work as boys names but not really as girls names, sorry.

ChequeredPasta · 18/12/2017 17:02

Absolutely awful.
I’d judge the parents of a male ‘lennox’
It’s not unisex.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2017 17:04

I've seen Lenox, spelled that way with one n, used as a girls' name in the US.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/12/2017 18:13

I like Hadley and Cameron.

loobybear · 18/12/2017 18:24

I've taught a few children called Lennox but have all been boys.

Pemba · 18/12/2017 18:42

The trouble is, Lennox is not a 'baby girls name'. It's masculine, or a surname.

A name that is clearly identifiable as female is not the same thing as a cutesy name. Off the top of my head, Anna, Rachel, Helena, Eva are hardly 'cutesy'. Some people might identify a name like 'Lilly-Mae' as being cutesy though.

Why can't a female name be strong, why do your daughters have to have an 'ambiguous' name to be taken seriously? Would you give a son a unisex name too? If not, why?

eggandchips5 · 18/12/2017 19:48

It's okay. More of a boys' name.

LoveInTokyo · 18/12/2017 19:56

I wouldn't, OP. It's your call but your girl has to live with it for the rest of her life.

Starryskiesinthesky · 18/12/2017 20:05

Hadley is nice!

horatioisabrick · 18/12/2017 23:15

I really don’t like it. But I’m not too fond of ‘unisex’ names in general tbh.

(But I rather like Jo, Charlie, Aran, Blair, Robin/Robyn, Rowan, Alex, Morgan, Aubrey and Avery)

horatioisabrick · 18/12/2017 23:16

Eden is lovely. :) You might also like Arden?

fruitbrewhaha · 18/12/2017 23:19

Robyn

I quite like Lux that was suggested upthread. It has a similar feel to Lennox, which is awful

fruitbrewhaha · 18/12/2017 23:20

What's your other DD called?

FreeNiki · 18/12/2017 23:22

An American friend called her dd Lennox.

I don't think it goes well on a girl

Pemba · 19/12/2017 00:42

Lux used to be a brand of soap. Lux Beauty Soap. Maybe it's still around? - anyway that's what it makes me think of first, I'm afraid.

Dolwar · 19/12/2017 04:40

Why would you want your daughter to have a name which is ambiguous? Are you trying to be cruel?

Discobabe98 · 19/12/2017 04:54

There was a girl on America’s next top model called Lenox spelt with one n. I quite like it but I’m also quite a fan of Annie Lennox so may be biased. I like Hadley. How about Hayden?

BigGreenOlives · 19/12/2017 04:59

So a strong woman’s name - Rosalind like Rosalind Franklin? Katherine - no one could ever call Katherine Hepburn cutesy. Ada after Ada Lovelace.

I’m sure you can think of some other inspirational women.

PandaCat · 19/12/2017 08:32

I don't like Lennox as a girl's name. Harley is nice, I prefer it as a girl's name, I knew a female Harley once.

mussidenn · 20/12/2017 13:31

I know a girl called Lennox. It took a bit of getting used to, I must admit!

There was a Scottish actress years ago called Lennox Milne, and she died years ago so it's not new. I know of her because she lived near relatives of mine.
