I'm only 16 weeks pregnant so could well change my mind but me and dp do not agree on names at all and we had a hell of a time naming ds1. Amazingly we both agree that we love the name Avery and would use it regardless of babies sex. Is this a silly idea? It's not a name I think I've ever heard anyone name their child and I'm worried about bullying.
Also recommendations of similar names would be most welcome!

It's quite popular in America I believe.

Wouldn't be to my taste but it's okay although it does remind me of an aviary. Not a name I'd give to a boy though.

One of the 'Real Housewives of New York' has an adult daughter named Avery. Only place I've ever heard it. I think it's a lovely name.

OuchBollocks · 10/12/2017 15:27

I like it. Reminds me of the actor Avery Brooks who was the captain in Star Trek
DS9. He's cool.

daisypond · 10/12/2017 15:55

The children's book Charlotte's Web has an Avery - brother to the main (human) character, so I see it as a boy's name.

Blackteadrinker77 · 10/12/2017 15:56

It makes me think of bird cages and bird poop.

Different spelling I realise.

Janetjanetjanet · 10/12/2017 15:57

Love Avery.

For me its more feminine but whatever takes your fancy.

manicinsomniac · 10/12/2017 15:59

I love it for a girl. Not sure I'd use it for a boy but there's no reason why not.

It's been top 10 in the US for quite a long time but I've never met one in the UK.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/12/2017 16:29

Although the only one I know Is a fictitious boy character. I still see it as pretty girls name

ChocolateCrunch · 10/12/2017 16:29

I like it. Probably use for a girl.

JennyOnAPlate · 10/12/2017 16:36

My mum has one in her garden with birds in it.

uncoolnn · 10/12/2017 16:47

I thought birds straight away too, sorry OP

Movablefeast · 10/12/2017 16:49

My parents had a male friend called Avery but it seems to have switched to a female name theses days FYI.

Mum2jenny · 10/12/2017 16:51

Avery weighing systems was my first thought

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/12/2017 16:52

Sounds like a place you keep birds Hmm

Mishappening · 10/12/2017 16:54

Not seriously surely?! It is a make of weighing scales as far as I am concerned.

NerrSnerr · 10/12/2017 16:55

‘Avery can you clean out the avery for me please.’

NeverDarkedOn · 10/12/2017 16:56

It makes me think of labels sorry OP it’s a lovely name I just deal with boxes of labels daily in Work

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 10/12/2017 16:57

‘Avery can you clean out the avery for me please.’

She'd be cleaning out the aviary.

villainousbroodmare · 10/12/2017 16:57

I really like it.

MrsEricBana · 10/12/2017 17:02

I like it!

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2017 17:11

It's the brand name of letter-weighing scales.
Why not go the whole hog and spell it Ava-Ree.

Movablefeast · 10/12/2017 17:12

What about Audrey?

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 10/12/2017 17:14

'It's the brand name of letter-weighing scales.'

that's a pretty niche reference tbh.

NisekoWhistler · 10/12/2017 17:21

Avery makes me think of Aviary

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2017 17:30

Not really. Avery is the make. There are Avery labels too. Quite common in office or postroom environments.
