Anyone seen or heard a name which has a ridiculous spelling? I was served in a shop today by a Georja.

Looked very wrong

Annalise - spelled Analyse.

lanbro · 11/12/2017 17:03

I know a woman named Karen but pronounced Keryn, very confusing!

Fannyfanakerpants · 11/12/2017 17:05

Poppii (Poppy to you and me). It's Latin apparently???

boredofmyoldname · 11/12/2017 17:07

I thought Zowie was Zowie Jones, he just added Duncan when he got older?

Although I always get confused, did Zowie rhyme with Zoe or Howie? Bowie seems to go between the 2 depending on who you speak to Confused

Kathryn, Debra and Steven were all thought of as funny made-up spellings once, but that was probably 50-60 years ago.

mrskitty15 · 11/12/2017 17:54

Shevaun instead of Siobhan and Lowla instead of Lola....

Migraleve · 11/12/2017 18:11

bored duncan was his given name.

David himself varied pronunciation which can be seen in video footage. Sometimes Bow and in to bow down and sometimes bow and in to tie a bow.

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2017 18:24

Poppii is latin? Latin for what?
The flower is Papaver.

splendide · 11/12/2017 19:02

People maybe? Population?

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 11/12/2017 19:03

Maybe they are getting confused with Pompeii and Italy and Latin!

Fannyfanakerpants · 11/12/2017 19:04

No idea Mike. I just nodded and smiled. I can't help but call the poor kid Popeye in my head.

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2017 19:08

Popeye was my first thought too. I could just about understand Poppi (awful) but Poppii is Poppy-eye. Plural of Poppius. latin for myparentsa aretwats

Patal · 11/12/2017 19:24

Ive seen a Ryeleigh at nursery as well as Krimzen (Crimson).

Close colleagues of my DH have daughters Oliveya, Rhubee and Francheska

Coconutspongexo · 11/12/2017 19:30

Elivier for Olivia
Someone on instagram welcomes her niece to the world last week ‘oshun’ (ocean)

NinaMarieP · 11/12/2017 20:06

@lanbro I know a Karen who pronounces her name as Kieron... surely Karen is just Karen!

GrooovyLass · 11/12/2017 21:13

I know someone with a Bayly (Bailey) but then she herself is called Voirrey (pronounced to rhyme with lorry) so maybe it's in the genes!

fleshmarketclose · 11/12/2017 22:42

@NinaMarieP I know a Karen called Kieron as well, wonder if it's the same one?

Pineapplebelongsonpizza · 11/12/2017 23:25

I've taught/known of a Tylar, Alivia, Jacab, Charddonnaie, Kodieleigh, Maxxei...

PinkFlamingo888 · 11/12/2017 23:45

Loui as they were worried Louis would get pronounced wrong 🙄

HoratioNightboy · 12/12/2017 00:01

she herself is called Voirrey (pronounced to rhyme with lorry) so maybe it's in the genes!

Voirrey is Manx for Mary, so not a "bizarre" spelling.

stopbeingadramallama · 12/12/2017 00:29

I'm crying at some of these😂😂

NinaMarieP · 12/12/2017 01:55

It would be strange to think there was more than one Karen/Kieron out there @fleshmarketclose! Mine's in Scotland in a place starting with D.

pipilangstrumpf · 12/12/2017 07:06

Louie is a better spelling outside of France

fleshmarketclose · 12/12/2017 07:15

Well mine was from a small mining village in the East Midlands who moved to America and I lost track. She was an early years teacher and really lovely. Think there might be two Karens called Kieron.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/12/2017 09:54

Rylee. Just why not spell it Riley?

Glad I’m not the only one who knows that “Zowie Bowie” has always been Duncan Jones Grin
