Anyone seen or heard a name which has a ridiculous spelling? I was served in a shop today by a Georja.

Looked very wrong

How about Kristofer !

Migraleve · 10/12/2017 23:24

I know of a Chirstie Confused

mumgointhroughtorture · 10/12/2017 23:27

My son is called Jack and when he was newborn we had to take him to hospital for a scan and the woman at reception asked me how we had spelt it ? I looked confused ... I said well obviously Jack and she said oh well we've had a few called Jac and Jak I thought she was kidding .

I don't get it . Although I have a name that is usually short for a longer name but it's a name in its own right and the amount of people who ask is it short for ... And then miss the E anyway . It's so annoying !
And my daughter is one of the normal spelt names in this thread and every single person looks worried when they go to spell her name ...
How hard can it be !

Names hey , should be so simple but it's far from ...

pieceofpurplesky · 11/12/2017 00:04

I teach a Macawli at the moment.

Nothing that odd about Kristofer surely? (Or indeed any of the other variations...? Christophe, Kristof.. ) - it’s just how it’s spelt in some Nordic and Eastern European countries. Christopher isn’t unique to the English language, there’s a version in all European languages ...

Some from this thread seem to be genuinely ridiculous “Unique” spellings of names but some seem to be mistaking other languages as stupid names Hmm

I've come across a Chardonai and a Pyper. A distant relative also has a Deztiny nn Dezzi

Also no a Ryley and a Jaxon but they seem like accepted spellings these days

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 11/12/2017 10:17

I’m sorry but I know of an Al’bee. I win.

pipilangstrumpf · 11/12/2017 12:22

Catherine spelt Kathryn

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2017 12:49

Kathryn was popular in the 1960s along with Debra. I know two women called Suzan pronounced Suzanne and 2 Carens.

ImAMarshmellow · 11/12/2017 12:55

Kamereon (Cameron)
Maxx (max)

I can think of Many other gems, but I can't remember the true horror of the spellings.

Saimon

Hahahahahah!

EvilTwins · 11/12/2017 14:51

Kathryn is a perfectly normal spelling of Catherine/Katherine/Katharine. I know more than one (loads of Catherines at my secondary school in the 80s)

I teach a Tabatha. That just looks wrong.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 11/12/2017 14:53

I know a Kieley (Kylie) and a Lewi (Louis).

TrickyD · 11/12/2017 15:14

Are the strangely spelt names really an attempt to be original, or are the parents very bad at spelling?

FinnegansCake · 11/12/2017 15:29

Marcipex - does poor little “Shlow” have a brother called “Gooey”? (Chloe and Guy) Wink

FinnegansCake · 11/12/2017 15:39

I feel sorry for a lot of these kids because people will make judgements about them, even though it’s not their fault that their parents are thick/attention-seekers or whatever the reason is that compels people to saddle their children with outlandish spellings of often perfectly normal names.
Why not choose a slightly less popular name instead of massacring the spelling of an unremarkable name if you want your child to stand out from the other kids?

Zowie Bowie changed his name as he grew up. He's now known as Duncan Jones (Jones was Bowie's original name, Bowie his stage/professional name).

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 11/12/2017 15:58

I used to work with a woman called Aiimie - far too many I's for my liking.

I also knew a Nike at uni - pronounced Nicky. He was a nob.

BoredOnMatLeave · 11/12/2017 16:00

I feel bad saying it as the parents are lovely but I know an Emily who smells it "Emeelee"

ItsTuesday · 11/12/2017 16:16

Madelyn

Migraleve · 11/12/2017 16:20

He was always Duncan Jones.

ChocolateCakeandTeaPlease · 11/12/2017 16:37

LOL at thinking Kathryn is bizarre Grin

Someone gets this wrong on every name thread.
