May, Mae or Mai

I lean towards May but not sure if it feels like a "full" name if that makes sense. OH wants to include it as a tribute to his GM, but would accept it as a middle name if not a first name. I have no idea what works with it though.

Any thoughts? Don't want anything too odd (if that's not a rude thing to say)

How did GM spell it?

DramaAlpaca · 22/11/2017 16:13

I'd go for May. It's a short, sweet 'full' name in itself, not a shortening. It's lovely.

It would make a refreshing change to use it as a first name as it usually ends up as a middle name these days.

You'd probably need a longer name as a middle name.

Cakescakescakes · 22/11/2017 16:14

Definitely not Mai. That’s awful.

MammieBear · 22/11/2017 16:41

Or May?...

TempletonTreeThorpe · 22/11/2017 16:41

May was his GM but her proper name was Mary-Jane. Middle name suggestions?

Silly auto correct! Maya!

manyaslip · 22/11/2017 16:43

I really like May - it was on our list too.

I think Mai is pronounced “my” isn’t it? As in a Mai Thai cocktail?

NotAgainYoda · 22/11/2017 16:43

May

Mai is not a spelling I've ever heard of

Kursk · 22/11/2017 16:43

I know a Katie-mae, I think that sounds nice.

NotAgainYoda · 22/11/2017 16:44

Maya is nice

MammieBear · 22/11/2017 16:44

Something a little longer as a middle think May Alexandra, May Elizabeth, May Jessamine...

NotAgainYoda · 22/11/2017 16:44

God don't double barrel it unless you are a Country singer

Valeriemalorie · 22/11/2017 16:45

May

msatlantis · 22/11/2017 16:45

It's lovely as it is.

Wolfiefan · 22/11/2017 16:45

Agree with Not.
May is lovely.

koalab · 22/11/2017 16:45

Mai is Welsh and pronounced my.

leghoul · 22/11/2017 16:46

May

NotAgainYoda · 22/11/2017 16:46

koalab

Aaah. That's nice

Glumglowworm · 22/11/2017 16:51

May

That's what his GM was called and it's far and away the nicest option

holdbackonthewine · 22/11/2017 16:54

Love May.

ByThePowerOfRa · 22/11/2017 17:07

I like May best.

TerrysChocolateOrange761 · 22/11/2017 17:18

May.

TempletonTreeThorpe · 22/11/2017 17:20

definitely won't be double barrelling, no fear.

I think I am set on May now. Not sure about middle name though, or whether to have one or not.

Is Mai a Welsh name? I teach a few (in Wales) and I read it as My, not May/Mae.

mumisnotmyname · 22/11/2017 17:35

I like May by itself
