May, Mae or Mai

I lean towards May but not sure if it feels like a "full" name if that makes sense. OH wants to include it as a tribute to his GM, but would accept it as a middle name if not a first name. I have no idea what works with it though.

Any thoughts? Don't want anything too odd (if that's not a rude thing to say)

Mai is not awful - it is a perfectly legitimate Welsh name. It is pronounced 'my', however.

Apologies to Wales! I know a Mai and her parents pronounce it ‘May’ so I assumed it was a yoonique spelling

Allthecurrentybuns · 22/11/2017 18:44

May 100%

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/11/2017 19:17

MAY. 😄

Mrsknackered · 22/11/2017 19:17

I love Mae and May. I think it is very much a full name.
I love May, Rose and Eve for first names, despise for middle!
I would avoid Mai.

cakes we forgive you. But we will be sending a pitchfork wielding mob round to sort your friend out.

I agree that May is the best option. I'd give her a nice long/interesting middle name to go with it as the only issue with May is that as it's a very short name it doesn't have any diminutive options.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 22/11/2017 19:26

May Olivia
May Elizabeth
May Alice

all nice

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/11/2017 19:44

I love May as a first name. I've only ever met one (she's be early 30s now) and she was so interesting and fiesty

May Alexandra would be pretty or May Beatrice

OkPedro · 22/11/2017 19:52

mrs odd that you love May as a first name but despise it as a middle name it's the same name Confused (I assume you're referring to the trend of people double baralling)

op My nana's name was May olive. It's a great name

usernameinfinito · 22/11/2017 19:54

I like Mai and Maya.

turquoise88 · 22/11/2017 19:57

I like Mae. Or May. Definitely not Mai unless you are pronouncing it the Welsh way.

I know plenty of double barrelled Lily-Mai, Kadie-Mai type names whose parents insist it is pronounced “May.” One of those yoonique spellings I think.

AnyaMoondial · 22/11/2017 19:58

May is beautiful. Eloise would be nice for mn.

Mrsknackered · 22/11/2017 20:03

pedro sorry, that was confusing.

I think they're such pretty names but I just think they sound so bland when after another name. Double barrelled or not.

Maybe only makes sense to me....

MikeUniformMike · 22/11/2017 20:49

Mai is welsh for May, and pronounced My.

TempletonTreeThorpe · 22/11/2017 23:17

The other option was Theresa...but OH says we definitely can’t do that

May long-middle-name but becareful how it all worms together with initials etc
Avoid May I. Surname
May B. Surname
Etc

Other option is something lime Madeline or Matilda and shorten to May

Bouncingbelle · 23/11/2017 15:06

May is simply gorgeous. I would go for something like May Elise.
