Is Florence overly popular?

I always thought it was quite unusual. I love it but don't want to pick a name lots of others have.

I am in Ireland I have only heard of one a few years ago.

Do you know lots of Florences?!

I don't know any personally and nor have I heard any while out and about. However it is In the top 100.

brieandcrackers · 21/11/2017 17:59

I know one who is about 20 years old and don’t recall hearing any while out in public - beautiful name!

BabloHoney · 21/11/2017 18:09

There are 2 in my son’s nursery class (he’s 3) one gets called Flossie. Think it’s a gorgeous name! Only famous one I can think of off the top of my head is Florence and the Machine x

MammieBear · 21/11/2017 18:14

Depends on your area.

Steeley113 · 21/11/2017 18:15

I know 2, both go by Flo

daisypond · 21/11/2017 19:29

It's pretty common now in my area, especially for the under 10s.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 21/11/2017 19:30

I know 5 under 5. We live in London.

Ecureuil · 21/11/2017 19:30

I know two, one 4 and one 5 months.

Miauu · 21/11/2017 19:32

Yes, the queues for the Uffizi are dreadful.

Catalufa · 21/11/2017 19:33

I only know one, she’s 8.

uncoolnn · 21/11/2017 19:36

I know one who is 25 but apart from that no.

IamFlorence · 21/11/2017 19:41

I'm a Florence! I'm 35. There were none at all until a few years ago it seemed. I'm quite annoyed it's getting more popular Hmm

WaitrosePigeon · 21/11/2017 19:56

I have a Florence. Wasn’t popular when she was born but is getting more so in this area now. Which is annoying but I can see why. It’s such a lovely name.

deptfordgirl · 21/11/2017 20:01

Gorgeous name but yes, very popular around here (SE).

SuperBeagle · 21/11/2017 20:23

I know one. She's in her 20s. But it just jumped into the top 100 here in Australia in 2016, so I expect to see it rise considerably in popularity over the coming years.

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/11/2017 20:28

It's very popular in our area for the under 5s. I think it's no.20 or similar in the popularity list for last year too. Gorgeous name though

AlmostChristmas · 21/11/2017 20:29

I'm a swimming teacher. I teach around 300 children a week. I'd say there was a Florence in every other class...

TerrysChocolateOrange761 · 21/11/2017 20:34

It's such a lovely name but I do think that it's become very popular now.

ChocolateCrunch · 21/11/2017 20:54

I like it. I don't know any actually.

ChunkyPunky · 21/11/2017 20:55

I'm in Yorkshire and I don't know any. But it is my Great Grandmother's name and I love it. She was always Florence, never Florrie, from what I've been told. She died in 1927, very young, and I know she was beautiful from the one photo I have. I'd have named my daughter that if I'd had one. Had a boy instead.

Littlehouseonthepraririe · 21/11/2017 21:06

i know a few, lovely name :)

squaresandsquares · 21/11/2017 21:08

There's loads here. One party we had 3, Flo, Florrie and Florence

Brokencrayonsstillcolour · 21/11/2017 21:42

Every baby group I go to has at least one! Top 20 and definitely getting more popular.

PandaCat · 21/11/2017 23:55

I think it depends on area tbh. Ive never met one!

holdbackonthewine · 22/11/2017 00:26

My baby Florence is 29 and only met one other growing up. Now she is aware of several little ones but it’s on the rise rather than being top 10 though from the responses above it’s clearly regional. It’s a beautiful name IMO!
