Rather effeminate, sorry.

keepingbees · 20/11/2017 09:41

I don’t like it sorry. Love Hugo but not sure they go together

TatianaLarina · 20/11/2017 10:54

I like Julian.

Not sure many children read Famous Five these days, it’s very dated.

RatRolyPoly · 20/11/2017 10:57

I LOVE Jules. Not so much Julian but meh, I don't like the long version of my own name much either but the shortening is ace.

Smoliver · 20/11/2017 11:02

I love Julian. Not a massive fan of Jules as a nickname - it reminds me of Joules the shop.

Christmaspresentsornot · 20/11/2017 11:33

Love Hugo!

I’m not keen on Julian, but it isn’t the worst name I’ve ever heard.

glitterbiscuits · 20/11/2017 11:50

Julian probably yes. But hmm...I’m not sure.

Goes with Hugo

Jules - no, all the Julies I know use this.

deptfordgirl · 20/11/2017 11:56

I like Julian and the nn Jules. I know a Julian with nn Jude which is also lovely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/11/2017 12:55

It goes very well with Hugo.
How about Julius ?

villainousbroodmare · 20/11/2017 13:12

Does go with Hugo, but like PPs, I like Hugo, a substantial and straightforward name, but not so much Julian. It's a bit soggy handkerchiefy. Jules is what all the Julies and Julias I know are known as. Could be six or more.

stonygreysoil · 20/11/2017 14:44

love Hugo, don't care for Julian (always a) , even though it fits.

how about Reuben? Or any of the names suggested by BertrandRussell

RiseToday · 20/11/2017 14:47

No I don't like Julian, sorry.

How about Jude?

HappyLabrador · 20/11/2017 14:56

Love it! And it goes well with Hugo which is also a great name.

I know a Julian. He's a lovely guy, very intelligent and successful. No one calls him Jules.

CosySnuggles · 20/11/2017 15:18

Love it, and works well with Hugo- I know a few grown up Julians (some shorten to Jules)

wizzywig · 20/11/2017 15:27

So posh! Love it!!

pipilangstrumpf · 20/11/2017 20:40

Love Julian! I’d only spell it the French way, Julien, if you have French connections.

Hugo and Jules are lovely together!

Pearlsaringer · 20/11/2017 21:23

Julian’s nice, prefer Jolyon.

ByThePowerOfRa · 20/11/2017 21:23

Jolyon is way nicer imo.

Dionysus78 · 20/11/2017 21:25

I would like to name every (very theoretical) boy and every pet I have Julian.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/11/2017 21:27

Not a huge fan of Julian - and definitely not Julien unless you're French. I only know one Jules and he's a 6 foot 4 Texan and carries it off very well. You definitely wouldn't mistake him for a Julie Wink

MikeUniformMike · 20/11/2017 22:19

Julian is not a name I like. Jules is worse.

Littlehouseonthepraririe · 21/11/2017 06:09

Thanks all for opinions :) I guess the main thing tht puts me off it is tht lads will nn him Julie in his teens and he'll loath me for naming him it! Perhaps I'll just have to have a spaniel named Julian at a later date 😆

I am rather crushing on the suggestion of Julius, but I don't know if I could stand in the park and shout 'Hugo, Julius, home time'! And not expect a couple of fabulous corgis to appear Grin

I'd go for Jude, personally. Similar to Julian but much nicer, and goes well with Hugo. But then Jude was second on my list ehen9 naming my son! Smile
