My dh really likes this name. I like it but don't really like giving nicknames without a longer name. Is it okay to just use Tess? I really dislike Tessa and Teresa, are there other names it could be short for?

Favourite girl’s name ever. Just do it.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 18/11/2017 20:28

My top girls name. Wasn’t allowed it though

Greylilypad · 18/11/2017 20:29

Lovely name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/11/2017 20:31

Gorgeous and underused.

SparklingSnowfall · 18/11/2017 20:38

Yep lovely

AnnieHoo · 18/11/2017 20:39

LoveYouTimMinchin · 18/11/2017 20:40

Great name!

DramaAlpaca · 18/11/2017 20:40

Just use Tess. It's lovely.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 18/11/2017 20:44

I like it. I like Teresa as well.

greenapplesplatter · 18/11/2017 20:48

Oh I like it, like another said it's underused so likely won't be another in her class. Do it!! I like 'short names'

deptfordgirl · 18/11/2017 20:49

You don't think it sounds unfinished or like a nickname? I just can't think if a longer version I like as much.

bridgetreilly · 18/11/2017 20:49

Yes, I agree, it's much nicer than Tessa.

WildRosesGrow · 18/11/2017 20:49

I like Tess, my daughter has a lovely friend with the name, not sure if she has a longer name or not.

I think Tess has also been used as a short name for Esther in the past, which could be another option.

BabloHoney · 18/11/2017 20:49

Short for Esther? It’s lovely on its own though so I’d only go for something longer if you want to!

ByThePowerOfRa · 18/11/2017 20:50

Tess on its own is lovely.

ByThePowerOfRa · 18/11/2017 20:50

I do love Esther too though.

MytToeHurtsBetty · 18/11/2017 21:09

In my childhood ten tonne teas featured greatly but I was fat so..... hope she isn't!

MytToeHurtsBetty · 18/11/2017 21:15

Tess not teas!

NickMyLipple · 18/11/2017 21:21

I would be using Tess if I didn't have a T surname...!

SparklingSnowfall · 18/11/2017 21:40

Ooh Tess short for Esther is nice

CandyMelts · 18/11/2017 21:42

Love Tess

KERALA1 · 18/11/2017 21:46

Gorgeous and weirdly under used. Jackpot op.

AnnieHoo · 18/11/2017 22:03

Could be short for Anastasia or Estée?

pallisers · 18/11/2017 22:27

I don't like nicknames as the full name wither but imo Tess has long since passed over into complete name by itself.

I think it is lovely, charming, easy, old-fashioned, good for a baby/child/adult.

I wouldn't call a child Esther or Anastasia (great names though) or anything if you intended to just call her Tess all her life - it would be a real pain as people would be constantly saying "your real name is what?" (also another rule I have is if the nickname and the full name have different first letters it is a right pain in the arse, just saying)

Love tess.
