Hi, it seems to get bad press when you look it up the male form of Sharron (that's another thread entirely) for me it reminds me of Home Alone that's not a bad childhood memory. Your thoughts 💭...

i know a Kevin and I despise the man so I can't give you an unbiased opinion.

TheQueenOfWands · 14/11/2017 16:54

It's a lovely name.

Didn't know it had a bad reputation.

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/11/2017 16:56

It's awful. Think of that mechanic guy on Coronation Street with the facial hair that looks like a minge.

BabloHoney · 14/11/2017 16:56

Might get a bad press because of Kevin Spacey at the moment!

Isadora2007 · 14/11/2017 16:58

We need to talk about Kevin.

^^
Story (fictional) written from the POV of a mother of a Colombine style schoolboy killer...

“Kev-eeeen!”
Bloody minions

“Ohhhh it’s sooooooo I fair!!!!!”
Kevin the teenager

Really, need I say more... Hmm

I know two Kevin's (in their early 50s) who are particularly nice blokes.
In the Netherlands a dozen or so years ago, there were quite a few baby Kevin's.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 14/11/2017 16:59

Never going to be due a revival - hopefully!!

icantgetnosleep5 · 14/11/2017 17:13

Its not offensive , but it's just a pretty dull name !

doodle01 · 14/11/2017 17:16

Gerbil ?

KyloRensLightsaber · 14/11/2017 17:39

Love it. Two Kevin’s in my family - both lovely wonderful men.

WhatKatyDidNotDo · 14/11/2017 18:03

Yes.

Loverunandwine · 14/11/2017 18:04

Yes

oldlaundbooth · 14/11/2017 18:05

Yes it's bad.

Wayne is worse.

Oysterbabe · 14/11/2017 18:08

It's awful. It's like Gary, dying out and unlikely to be revived.

DumbledoresApprentice · 14/11/2017 18:13

I know a fair few secondary aged children called Sharon. I teach girls not boys so don’t know about the prevalence of Kevins but in my experience Sharon was still popular in some communities eleven years ago. I don’t associate it with older people like most on here seem to. I bet there are still young Kevins out there.

Fekko · 14/11/2017 18:14

Only if you are of a certain age ('the jeeeeeeeeh-billlllll')

ForalltheSaints · 14/11/2017 18:20

Kevin seems a name more of those born in the 60s, and immortalised by The Undertones in 'My Perfect Cousin". Except for Kevin Pietersen, which would be a reason in itself never to call a child Kevin today.

SignoraStronza · 14/11/2017 18:21

Kevin was all the rage as a baby make when I lived in Italy about 10 years ago. I nearly choked on my cappuccino trying to stifle a laugh when my friend announced, in all seriousness, that they were considering it for their unborn. Thankfully he was spared. Lots of baby Kevins and Barbaras!

Fekko · 14/11/2017 18:22

I know one in his 20s.

RavenWings · 14/11/2017 18:23

It'll come back in style. If Agnes, Enid, Betty, Bertie, Maud, Sidney etc can be used now, Kevin will be fine - they are so much worse. It's just not removed enough from the current generation to seem odd.

There's nothing wrong with Kevin imo, it's not a very attractive sound - but then there's much, much worse out there imo.

displacementofwater · 14/11/2017 18:23

It's a name of it's time....... and should probably remain that way.

RavenWings · 14/11/2017 18:23

*it's just not removed enough from the current gen naming children to seem COOL - clearly my mind wandered off there!

closetmonster · 14/11/2017 18:27

Not a fan... an older name that makes me think of old men

Justgivemesomepeace · 14/11/2017 18:28

There is a Keith in my dds year (shes 15). His dad's a Keith as is his grandad. It's the same kind of name. Quite a popular chap by all accounts.

HRTpatch · 14/11/2017 18:29

My dp is a Kevin. Late 50s.
Better than my previous partners name. 🤣
I wouldn't name a baby Kevin
