Help and thoughts with my baby girl name list please- Inca/Eden

This is my first post but I have been struggling with opinions on my baby girl names.

Partner and friends are very sweet by saying they like them all or that they are 'ok' but it means i'm probably not getting honest reactions to them. Most people I know are from a alternative place/background so they are also very used to hearing/having weird and wonderful (or awful!) names.

I have 3 months to go on this pregnancy but time seems to be going so fast so here goes:

Inca/ Inka
Eden
Marlowe
Shiloh
Cherish

Just as a point of reference 'Inka' (can also be spelt Inca) is a Scandinavian baby name but I also have no issues if people associate it with the South American Inca's/Inka's.

Any ideas or opinions welcome

I like Eden Smile

DiegoMadonna · 14/11/2017 09:53

I like Inca. Not with a k though because it just looks too much like the word ink.

Potteryprincess30 · 14/11/2017 09:53

Thanks PuppyMonkey Smile

Yes, the 'K' makes it sound more harsh I think too

Inca/ Inka - think it sounds quite harsh. I like it for an adult but not for the first 20 years
Eden - this one. Was our list. Love it.
Marlowe - would expect a boy. Possibly American.
Shiloh- meh. Not keen. Would assume you were a Brangelina fan
Cherish - just no. That's all. No.

Callamia · 14/11/2017 09:57

I don’t like Marlowe very much, or Cherish - it’s a bit wet sounding.

I do like Eden and Inca.
I am ambivalent about Shiloh. I think that depends on you, your surname etc.

It feels a bit like you’ve got ideas from various cultures and languages - is there one that suits you best?

pipilangstrumpf · 14/11/2017 09:57

Love Inka! Definitely with the K.

pipilangstrumpf · 14/11/2017 09:58

Inca makes my brain think soft c like incy. I only know Inkas spelled that way.

CruCru · 14/11/2017 10:07

I don't know Inka / Inca - I have heard of Inge / Inga (pronounced "ing - a"). I prefer Inka to Inca, partly because I do think of the Incas when it is spelt that way.

Please don't use Cherish. It is sweet for a tiny baby or a very old lady but I can't imagine a 21 year old starting out in a new job or a 40 year old who runs a department and has a mortgage called Cherish.

I do like Marlowe. It's unusual without being awkward.

I am less keen on Eden or Shiloh. The second of those was Charlotte's original baby name from Sex and the City (it is ridiculous that I remember that but it has stuck).

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 14/11/2017 10:08

Just Eden from your list.

Brokencrayonsstillcolour · 14/11/2017 10:23

CruCru-Carlotte's daughter's were called Lily and Rose 😕

Angelina Jolie has a child called Shiloh if that's what you're thinking?

I like Inca but prefer Eden I think-although I know a few Edens so it's the most popular on your list.

CruCru · 14/11/2017 10:31

You're right - Charlotte's original baby name was actually "Shayla".

AnyaMoondial · 14/11/2017 10:41

Marlowe is my favourite Smile

deptfordgirl · 14/11/2017 11:08

Eden seems to be very popular at the moment so might date a bit.

I taught an Inca recently. I always thought it was a lovely name. Also like Marlowe but not Cherish at all.

deptfordgirl · 14/11/2017 11:13

Oh and Shiloh just reminds me of Brangelina but it is lovely.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/11/2017 11:15

I love Inca/Inka

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/11/2017 11:26

I like Cherish and Shiloh.

ChocolateCrunch · 14/11/2017 11:29

I like Inca and Eden. Not keen on the others, sorry

PeterRabbitt · 14/11/2017 11:40

Marlowe for sure. I ended up with three boys but I loved Marlowe every time and would have definitely used it for a girl!

dowotmakesuhappy · 14/11/2017 11:41

Eden

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/11/2017 12:18

Inca/ Inka - I like Inka, for a girl
Eden - it’s alright, but not to my taste
Marlowe - again, not to my taste but it’s ok
Shiloh - as Marlowe
Cherish - I really dislike this, sorry

icantgetnosleep5 · 14/11/2017 13:57

I'd steer clear of Inca / cherish imo !
Eden is beautiful

florascotianew · 14/11/2017 14:18

The Inca were a very famous civilisation in South America - their ruins are well-known tourist destinations eg Machu Picchu en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machu_Picchu. It would be a bit like calling a baby 'Aztec' - and both the Aztec and Inca civilisations are sometimes studied in primary school.

As previous poster said, Inga is a traditional Scandinavian girls name.

Nonameyet1 · 14/11/2017 19:20

I have an Eden and lots of people, in real life, say they love it. Not sure if that helps at all.
