Like the book? Seriously?

Faez · 26/10/2017 00:19

Jokes

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/10/2017 00:20

I don't think you can, sorry.

What about Lalita?

nobutreally · 26/10/2017 00:21

Have you heard of Nabokov?! I wouldn't.

I think of the book Lolita.

The associations linked with the novel mean its not a name I like for an actual child.

oldlaundbooth · 26/10/2017 00:23

Hahah.

Good one.

Or have you heard the Police song?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 26/10/2017 00:24

Is this a competition?

I thought Aryan last week was a clear winner...

On reflection I still think I'd rather be named after the creation of a paedo-apologist than a Nazi ideal. So yes - Aryan has it

HellonHeels · 26/10/2017 00:24

Errr

ItchySeveredFoot · 26/10/2017 00:25

Oh yeah Aryan was ridiculous!

Pemba · 26/10/2017 00:29

It has a pretty sound, and in Spain, it's a perfectly normal short form for Dolores. But in English speaking countries it's only associated with the book/films really, and it's not a pleasant association - I don't think it's usable really.

Potterhead113 · 26/10/2017 00:29

Oh shit sorry didn’t realise it was a book

Hmm
ladybirdsaredotty · 26/10/2017 00:34

Where did you hear of the name, then? Confused

Topseyt · 26/10/2017 01:15

No! Just don't.

SyrilSneer · 26/10/2017 01:31

I know a doctor called Lolita! Not a good name.

Csd17 · 26/10/2017 01:57

What about Lola instead? It doesn’t have the same adult sexually obsessed with adolescent connotations

Cavender · 26/10/2017 02:06

The very first thing you do when choosing a name for your child is google it surely?

MsPasspartout · 26/10/2017 02:59

Can’t say I ever googled my DC’s names. I can’t agree that googling potential names is the first thing one would do.

Caprinihahahaha · 26/10/2017 03:10

I can't believe anyone has not heard of Lolita nor understands the conotations tbh

Reppin · 26/10/2017 03:28

I love it. In my culture it is a diminutive, and very very pretty. Sadly it was used in a novel about child sexual abuse and it seems that people will always associate the victim with negative traits surrounding sexuality. ^^

SuperBeagle · 26/10/2017 04:01

Absolutely not. You cannot do that to a child.

Sophronia · 26/10/2017 07:09

Too associated with the book. Lola is more usable.

AgnesNitt1976 · 26/10/2017 07:31

What about Elita?

MegAndSprog · 26/10/2017 07:33
Blush
