This is for a second DD I don't yet have! Just met a Daphne recently and have been slightly obsessing over its loveliness. But don't know what connotations it has for others.

I know a baby daphne. Her sister is called Mavis!

SuperBeagle · 24/10/2017 21:12

It's alright. It'd probably get shortened to Daffy, which is pretty dire though. I prefer Delphi, as another poster suggested, or Dahlia as another suggested.

DramaAlpaca · 24/10/2017 22:10

I absolutely love Daphne, gorgeous name.

Pemba · 25/10/2017 16:29

Makes me think of a pupil at a posh girls' boarding school, 1950s or earlier. Gym slip and stripey tie, jolly hockey-sticks etc. Ditto Penelope.

But I suppose objectively it's a name from Greek mythology, and quite pretty. It does sound a bit like 'daft' though, and can be shortened to 'Daffy' which also means silly, so that doesn't help.

I dislike it immensely. I don't like the way it sounds.

FreeFrie · 25/10/2017 23:30

I love Daphne! Reminds me of Some like it hot 😂👌🏻

MulderitsmeX · 29/10/2017 20:28

I love it! Not sure what DC1 is yet but really want to use it. DH otoh hates it so it's off the table. Du Maurier is one of my favourite authors too. I find it a "strong" name which I want for a girl.

Overreaction1 · 29/10/2017 20:29

Adorable

Regressionconfession · 29/10/2017 20:34

I love it .. wanted it for DD.

Rainatnight · 29/10/2017 21:31

Hm, seems it's a bit Marmite! A lot of love, but some not at all keen. I think I can cope with those associations, and hasn't even thought of Du Maurier.

This is all extremely hypothetical in any case...

I quite like it. It has a rather 1930’s feel to it and makes me think of Daphne Manners in Jewel in the Crown.

kaytee87 · 30/10/2017 09:33

I don’t like it. Makes me think of ‘dafty’

firawla · 30/10/2017 10:08

Makes me think daphne and Celeste. I’m not keen at all

PandorasXbox · 30/10/2017 10:11

I don’t like it sorry. It’s more of a horse or dog name imo.

MoreCheerfulMonica · 30/10/2017 10:15

Love it! All the associations are good.

NameChange30 · 30/10/2017 10:20

It's funny how marmite the name seems to be! All love or hate, no middle ground.
