This is for a second DD I don't yet have! Just met a Daphne recently and have been slightly obsessing over its loveliness. But don't know what connotations it has for others.

I think of Daphne Broon, and just picture someone fat and frumpy.

PandaCat · 24/10/2017 16:29

I just think of Scooby Doo! It's a lovely name.

AnyaMoondial · 24/10/2017 16:52

Love it. Love it love it. DH didn't 🙁

Cockmagic · 24/10/2017 18:11

I love Fraiser but don't like daphne sorry.

sinceyouask · 24/10/2017 18:14

It's not a name I'd choose.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/10/2017 18:27

How about Delphi ?

TheNumberfaker · 24/10/2017 18:34

Scooby Doo!

DryIce · 24/10/2017 18:42

I love Daphne. My husband isn't keen, sadly. Also my baby was a boy! But still...

It sounds lovely, is classical, unusual without being absurd and I think has excellent nickname potential

Curlyshabtree · 24/10/2017 18:44

Sorry, I think it’s bloody awful. Makes me think of a fussy, overbearing, chintzy MIL

LemonScentedStickyBat · 24/10/2017 18:44

I love it

FluffyMcCloud · 24/10/2017 18:46

Oh I love it!

VodkaPenne · 24/10/2017 18:50

I love it!

Dusktilldawn · 24/10/2017 18:52

Really awful and outdated but not in a granny chic way.

dotdotdotmustdash · 24/10/2017 18:53

I also think of Daphne Broon! Not a name that would make my top 1000 list.

Callamia · 24/10/2017 18:54

Oh blackcats! I know a grown up Daphne Viola. Are the sisters that you know Eastern European?

I think it's lovely.

TeaAndToast85 · 24/10/2017 18:56

Reminds me of Jack Lemmon in Some Like it Hot

Liadain · 24/10/2017 18:56

Really awful imo. Fussy, flouncy and overbearing - or Scooby Doo/Daffy Duck.

CabernetSauvignyoni · 24/10/2017 19:30

and Celeste...

ImSoUnoriginal · 24/10/2017 19:36

I knew one. She tended to be called Daffers! She was elderly though. I don't mind the full name but kids will shorten it to something, so you have to consider what it will be and if you like it. My name is only 2 syllables and it still got shortened at school.

Zebrasinpyjamas · 24/10/2017 19:38

It was on my shortlist but dh vetoed it!

BernardBlacksHangover · 24/10/2017 19:52

I know two Daphnes, both under three. I like it.

Bearberry · 24/10/2017 19:54

I like it a lot. Reminds me of the Daphne character in the Malory towers or St Clare's books - can't remember which one she was in?!

MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2017 20:05

It's lovely.
I'd think Daphne Moon, Daphne du Maurier and Daphne from neighbours, but that's just me showing my age.

PeasAndHarmony · 24/10/2017 20:09

Sorry but o really don’t like Daphne, I usually love ‘old lady names’ but not this one! Sounds grumpy and the only one I know gets called ‘daf ‘ which sounds ugly to my ears.

Love the suggestion of Viola though!

bakingmad83 · 24/10/2017 20:11

Lovely name. This was my favourite for DD, who is due in 3 weeks, but DH not keen, so scrapped it from our short list. Daphne du Maurier, Daphne from Scooby Doo and Daphne from Neighbours are what I think of when I hear the name, but none really crossed my mind when picking our preferred names.
