What does everyone think of Marie as a first name, is it too dated?

I like it too.

Liadain · 09/10/2017 19:04

Love it. Such an unusual choice these days.

Littlebatcalledlucille · 09/10/2017 19:06

It's lovely!

RhonaRugMuncherr · 09/10/2017 19:07

I also like it.

Nonameyet1 · 09/10/2017 19:47

My sister is called Marie (Ann-Marie) but everyone calls her Marie, I've never loved it.

ziggzagg · 09/10/2017 19:57

My middle name is Marie. I love it. Was considering Maria for unborn but it's a boy so....

MikeUniformMike · 09/10/2017 20:01

It's lovely.

ImListening · 09/10/2017 20:02

I really like it.

catiinbo0ts · 09/10/2017 20:03

My cousin is a Maria. Love it.

Ropsleybunny · 09/10/2017 20:03

I really don't like it. It always sounds like someone's forgotten the A.

bridgetreilly · 09/10/2017 20:04

I think it is very dated, tbh.

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/10/2017 20:06

Beautiful choice

ChocolateCrunch · 09/10/2017 20:10

Prefer Maria or Marina, tbh

Jedbartletforpresident · 09/10/2017 20:11

I like it but I think the confusion over pronunciation might annoy me.

I know quite a few - quite a lot pronounced Ma-REE, but probably an equal number pronounced MA-ree.

MollyHuaCha · 09/10/2017 20:27

Love it when pronounced Ma-REE.

SuperBeagle · 09/10/2017 20:41

I think it's dated.

MrsNai · 09/10/2017 20:48

It is a pretty name but I can't read it without hearing Elvis-

Ummmmgogo · 09/10/2017 20:50

very unusual as a first name. very generic as a middle name.

SumAndSubstance · 09/10/2017 21:20

I love it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/10/2017 22:45

Gorgeous !

Pemba · 09/10/2017 23:01

Very pretty

Sophronia · 10/10/2017 00:42

It’s lovely! Overused as a middle name but refreshing as a first name.

PandorasXbox · 10/10/2017 13:49

It’s really dated imo. It’s like Angela, Diane, Julie, Karen etc.

Maria is slightly better.

Pemba · 10/10/2017 14:04

Well it was popular in the 60s and 70s, but mainly as a middle name. It shouldn't be discounted just because of that. Your example names are from that era and are apparently to be scorned because of that, but I actually like Julie too, particularly pronounced the French way Because Julie was so common over here especially in the 60s, people just automatically give the 'dated' response. In France, it is classic, like Julia to us. But Julie was used far more than Marie.

To be honest, they are both nicer than quite a few names that are fashionable now, like Constance, Florence, Ivy etc.
