For a girl. Is it too 'sleb' related, like Demi or Harper? If it's possible to shed that then is it at all pretty?

What's a sleb?

Shiloh's a good name, it sounds pleasant. I think most people would think of Angelina Jolie's child (who prefers to be called John now).

SuperBeagle · 01/10/2017 23:31

Yep. Jolie-Pitt is the first thing that'll come to mind.

Also, it's a masculine name, traditionally.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 01/10/2017 23:37

Always makes me think of The Merchant of Venice. A male name originally. So, to my ears, not pretty, sorry.

NikiBabe · 01/10/2017 23:39

Also sounds like a missile silo to me.

PebblesFlintstone · 01/10/2017 23:39

Surely the Merchant of Venice is Shylock, not Shiloh?

IrregularCommentary · 01/10/2017 23:41

Makes me think Jolie-Pitt too, sorry.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 01/10/2017 23:43

Pebbles, yes it is but it’s too similar and Shylock was derived from it as a messianic reference. Hence, I don’t think of it as a ‘pretty’ name as such.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 01/10/2017 23:44

Wasn't there a dog in a film called Shiloh? Not that I'm opposed to "dog names", quite the opposite in fact but that's what I think of.

Carouselfish · 01/10/2017 23:53

lindblum irreverent term for 'celebrity'.

I don't much mind the masculine origin. Or the dog ref. But wondered if it stood alone as attractive.

It's a lovely unisex name, I think it's beautiful.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 02/10/2017 00:19

Just looked it up, it's a film called Shiloh, that's obviously why it was in my head. As a name I like it and as a former child, I'd have been thrilled to have a film about a dog with my name!
Go for it!
(And ignore me, no one else will remember an ancient film)

NuffSaidSam · 02/10/2017 00:49

I think it sounds really nice, but it's far too closely associated with Brangelina. I don't think you can shed that connection. Chances are Shiloh herself is going to grow up to be in the public eye and who knows whether it will be in a positive light or not. I wouldn't lumber a child with it. There are loads of other names that sound nice and don't have the Jolie-Pitt weight with them.

Ionarocks · 02/10/2017 06:28

I like it but yes, I immediately thought of Angelina and Brad. I associate it with them a lot more so than Harper with the Beckhams.

MagicFajita · 02/10/2017 06:33

Shiloh is a beautiful name , I knew a little Shiloh in a previous job , she was a lovely girl and the same suited her.

I do hope people don't stop using this name.

PetalMettle · 02/10/2017 06:40

I think it’s probabky the celeb kid name I most associate with celebs. I’d think you were a fan.

stopbeingadramallama · 02/10/2017 06:43

Yep, made me think of Brad Pitt straight away. Which isn't a bad thing.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/10/2017 08:45

I think it's very pretty. At the end of the day, it's just a name, it doesn't have any bad connotations, that I'm aware of.

Blossomdeary · 02/10/2017 08:47

Don't do it - just don't!

MagicFajita · 02/10/2017 08:50

I think we need to keep using these "celeb" names and claim them back for ourselves. After all Shiloh born in 2017 probably won't hear any of this Shiloh Jolie-Pitt stuff when she's older , so what does it matter?

elevenclips · 02/10/2017 08:57

It's like Silo. Odd thing to name a child M or F.

PandorasXbox · 02/10/2017 11:00

Lovely.

weebarra · 02/10/2017 11:04

Jolie-Pitt
Also a battle of the American Civil War

NuffSaidSam · 02/10/2017 11:49

Magic Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is only 11 years old! I imagine she will still be around when a baby born in 2017 grows up.

MagicFajita · 02/10/2017 12:39

Of course she will , but by then other celeb names will be big , very few will mention Shiloh Pitt.

Sophronia · 02/10/2017 14:14

I like it for a boy.
