I said it on purpose Hmm

If you’re not in the UK then you should have said. The range of acceptable names are different depending on where you live.
People would ideally not make judgements about a person before they met them but they do. If you’d picked Donald for instance, people in the UK would assume that he’s named after Trump and that you had right wing political views.
Jayden/Brayden/Kayden is one of those names that conjure up a certain image in 2017 UK. There are names that conjure the opposite image too - Lettice/St John/Araminta spring to mind. You can’t ask for an opinion but get angry that when people from the UK don’t react positively to Jayden. (I know Jadon a different name but it will get lumped with Jayden)

Alfieee · 21/09/2017 11:57

I'm from England, never said I wasn't.

I’m surprised that you’re so annoyed by the image Jayden conjures up then.

Alfieee · 21/09/2017 12:08

But Jadon isn't Jayden and I wouldn't understand it if it was Jayden anyway. I've seen Jeremy Kyle before and I'm pretty sure it was a David on there? I don't understand. I've met a lovely Kayden (a name mentioned earlier) and no, I just don't get it. I've met an awful Monty (actually Montgomery on BC) names don't decide what you're like.

I prefer Noah, but there are eleventy-billion little Noahs where I live. It's hugely popular.

I'm not familiar with the name Jadon at all and am not Christian (although was raised with Bible stories etc at C of E school) - I had no idea it was a biblical name. When I saw the thread title I assumed it was an alternate spelling of Jayden. I think in the UK that will happen a lot if you go with Jadon, so that is something to bear in mind if that is not what you want. Jayden is OK but Noah is nicer.

elevenclips · 21/09/2017 12:13

Op you've had a truck load of negativity re Jadon so the opinion you have asked for is pretty clearly that people prefer Noah.

GahBuggerit · 21/09/2017 12:13

Noah definitely. Lovely name.

Jadon looks like you're trying to spell Jayden in a made up way, like when someones called Bob with a silent K. He'd forever have to correct peoples spelling of it.

LivingInLaLaLand · 21/09/2017 12:14

Not keen in either, but Jadon is just way too try hard & awful.

Out of the 2, definitely Noah

littlecabbages · 21/09/2017 12:23

Jadon would be mispronounced by all the uneducated heathens/Jezza fans.

Op, I know it’s disappointing but it seems (at least) one of your name choices hasn’t gone down well. If you don’t care about other people’s opinion then use it anyway but it seems from your replies on this thread you do care about others opinions otherwise you wouldn’t have had such a reaction.

I would choose Noah.

grendel · 21/09/2017 12:36

Noah is a lovely name, but there are loads of little Noahs around at the moment.

Like everyone else, I have never come across the name Jadon before, but if I saw it written down I would assume it was another variant of the Jayden/Jaiden type of name.

DiegoMadonna · 21/09/2017 13:23

Jadon also looks like a typo of Jason (d and s are even next to each other on the keyboard!) and Jason is a horrible 80s name.

Noah is lovely - it's popular for a reason. For some reason it faces more of a backlash for its popularity than other top 10 names like Jacob, George and Harry. People don't like change I guess.

eyebrowsonfleek · 21/09/2017 13:27

Of course you can have the name Jayden and be a lovely child.

The average person would assume that Jadon was an alternative spelling of Jaiden which is why people are talking about Jayden in this post.

You’re clearly not a Jeremy Kyle mum if you care about our opinion but the sad truth is Jayden/Kayden/Brayden etc is a name that always features on “naughty name lists” Obviously these lists are adult constructs which are unfair to the kids but people in the UK will make assumptions about you if you pick certain names.

I would suggest that you pick the name you love and not discuss it here. There is no universal name that will get the thumbs up from everyone and my experience is that Mumsnet tastes are very different to real life. This year’s number one names Oliver and Olivia would get 🙄 and comments about there being too many Olivers and Olivias in the world.

DiegoMadonna · 21/09/2017 13:29

I just don't get it

You do. You may not like it or agree with it, but it's been explained enough times now for you to understand it.

tigerlil6571 · 21/09/2017 13:30

Noah is nicer IMO

Hillingdon · 21/09/2017 13:31

Jadon will be misspelt, misheard and your son wont thank you - IMHO of course!

FunnysInLaJardin · 21/09/2017 13:40

lol at OP having a scrap in baby names Grin

Hillingdon · 21/09/2017 13:46

And it sounds like a South London drug dealers name..

Alfieee · 21/09/2017 14:03

Okay thanks everyone. Noah it is Grin

OP posts:
WaitrosePigeon · 21/09/2017 14:52

It does make me chuckle when the old 'uneducated' line gets trotted out Grin

Alfieee · 21/09/2017 14:56

It is a bit though

OP posts:
WaitrosePigeon · 21/09/2017 16:33

What is?

Yourshakraishangingout · 21/09/2017 17:26

Just because someone doesn't know all religious names in the Old Testament it doesn't make them 'uneducated' If I threw a name from the Koran at you and you didn't know it would that still be classed uneducated?
Also, people aren't allowed to class a name as 'chavvy' but you are allowed the class a name as 'pretentious' 🤔 Go figure.

Alfieee · 21/09/2017 17:29

@Yourshakraishangingout funnily enough, that's not why I was describing people as uneducated. Also, I did pretentious is italic, assuming you'd be able to see I was saying it on purpose Hmm

OP posts:
Yourshakraishangingout · 21/09/2017 17:41

So why is people saying Jadon may be confused with 'jaiden' etc uneducated then?
