Not pg and not in need of boys' names. But am I alone in thinking that Derek is z lovely classic elegant name and well over due a revival? It's the same sort of vintage as Arthur/ Ernest/ Archie/ Oscar which are all super popular, but I've never met one under the age of 70.

Where are all the baby Dereks?

I knew a very cool Derek at one point, who would be 40ish now. If that helps!

Orangebird69 · 18/09/2017 19:26

I love it! I like Dennis too.

WhiteHairReally · 18/09/2017 19:27

Around about 25 Baby Dereks born annually in recent years.

I think Derek was popular slightly later than Arthur / Wilfred etc, so might see a revival in the next decade or so. I like it as I know a really nice 60 year old. I also like Dennis and Donald.

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 18/09/2017 19:49

I would like Donald if it wasn't for the current POTUS! Love Douglas.

Exactly - 25 baby Dereks a year is piddling!

My grumpy boss is called Derek. Enough to put me off the name!!! ! Wink

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/09/2017 19:53

I know a very cute 4 year old Dennis. No Dereks yet, though...

ScarletForYa · 18/09/2017 19:54

I'd put Derek in the same category as Kevin or Jason.

Just dated.

Chaffinch4 · 18/09/2017 19:59

Oh yikes, I forgot about Trump! Maybe not Donald then.

Scarletforya yep, I reckon our children will be naming their children Kevin and Jason, Linda and Pauline.

Freeedom · 18/09/2017 20:10

15 people named their baby Derek in 2015, in England and Wales - I expect a few more in Scotland too. I know a four year old one, named after his father. I do think it's pretty dated.

persistencepaysoff · 18/09/2017 21:00

My father is called Derek. He's an utter bell end 😂

Berrybakecake1 · 18/09/2017 21:05

My lovely dad was Derek. He first name was Albert but everyone called him by his middle name Derek.
Most of the family was Doncaster based and used to call him r'dek as in our Derek.
He was a kind gentle man who would do anything for anybody.
I agree it's ready for a revival.Smile

Pemba · 18/09/2017 21:20

classic and elegant? Derek?? Don't be daft. Grin

DiegoMadonna · 18/09/2017 21:27

Yeah, I don't think Derek is due its comeback yet. Horrible name!

slippermaiden · 18/09/2017 21:29

I used to know a lovely Derek!

pilates · 18/09/2017 22:32

Not classic and elegant, it's awful

EllenJanethickerknickers · 18/09/2017 22:35

Not quite due a revival yet. On a par with Roy, Clive and Brian.

Mrsknackered · 18/09/2017 22:58

Oh goodness, no.

Gary, Barry, Derek, Paul, etc are definitely left best in the past.

holidayqueriwifi · 18/09/2017 22:59

Quite the worst male name ever!

RebornSlippy · 18/09/2017 23:01

Unless you're giving birth to a middle aged man in a grey rain mac, it's a 'no' from me.

Neolara · 18/09/2017 23:04

Noooooooooooooo! Terrible name (sorry to all those who have lovely Derek relatives) .

Sophronia · 18/09/2017 23:05

I like it!

hophop333 · 18/09/2017 23:06

I assume you are joking?!

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 18/09/2017 23:09

My friend has a dog called Derek, he's pretty cool.

Tedster77 · 18/09/2017 23:09

Baby Derek Shock maybe in 20 years it will be the new Arthur but for now it's pure Alan Partridge.
