If an Aubrey was written on your class list, would you think boy or girl?

It's a boy's name.

But, I would be open to the possibility of an American parent or uninformed British parent giving it to a girl. Not because they are being knowingly subversive but because they don't realise it's not a girl's name. I would silently judge them Grin

Boy

khaleesi71 · 28/08/2017 19:15

My US friend called her baby girl Aubrey and we were all a bit Hmm and when she registered the birth she was mildly cross that we hadn't told her Aubrey was a boys name in the UK. I think the registrar seemed put out by friends choice of name!! She's a lovely girl and her name suits her perfectly. Serves us right for being Hmm and think anything goes nowadays - although Sunshine Purple Moonbeam should never catch on Grin

Boy.

Bellaposy · 28/08/2017 19:17

Boy - I know one aged 1.

HarrietVane99 · 28/08/2017 19:19

But I know of an older woman called Michael.

'Miss Michael Learned' played the mother in The Waltons. She was 'Miss' in the opening credits, presumably to ensure viewers weren't confused.

Aubrey has always been a boy's name as far as I'm concerned, but as pp have said, you never know these days.

Turquoise0wl of course Grin.

elevenclips · 28/08/2017 19:21

I know a male Aubrey so I'd think boy

woodhill · 28/08/2017 19:21

Aubrey was her name - song by Bread

PeachIcedT · 28/08/2017 19:22

I'd also associate it with a girl due to Aubrey O'Day, especially as in one song I remember her singing "My name is Aubrey" as part of it and it's stuck in my head.

harrietm87 · 28/08/2017 19:24

It's a boys' name

RhubardGin · 28/08/2017 19:28

Girl

I've only known girl Aubrey's Smile

QOD · 28/08/2017 19:32

I know of a girl
Aubrey. Saw lots of photos on Facebook and realised when she was about 1 that she was a girl
Boys name
For sure

This is why meeting your class at transition days is helpful Grin

And one of those activities is taking a photo of them!

Mind you my mother is a teacher and named me a unisex name which is considered male in U.K. And more often female in America.
This is before the day of digital photos etc!

Boy! And my parents' (boy) dog.

Copperspot · 28/08/2017 20:12

No idea, i would have to check!

Like when we get an Ashley, Cody, Colbie, Beau, Mckenzie, Addison, etc. Lots more unisex names these days!

3littlebadgers · 28/08/2017 20:15

I'd think boy, and if he turned out to be a girl, I'd accept that too.

DandySeaLioness · 28/08/2017 20:44

I'd be thinking girl but looks like I'm in the minority Shock

Firefries · 28/08/2017 20:44

Girl
